"Everything feels good. Obviously when you are not skating for a couple days it takes a little while to get back up to speed, but I feel good on the ice," Kerfoot said after the 40-minute session at Family Sports Center. "It's just about getting the conditioning back and I have done a pretty good job of that the last few days."
He skated on a line with Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen during the session, as Nathan MacKinnon was given a maintenance day.
After practice, head coach Jared Bednar said Kerfoot should be an option against the Canadiens. He is not sure which line the forward would be on if he is cleared to play.
The 24-year-old has 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) through 30 outings so far this campaign.
"[Kerfoot is] another guy that can play with pace and hopefully provide us some offense," Bednar noted. "We have missed him a little bit, he is a big part of our team. Plays the power play, helps us produce in offensive situation. The guy sees the ice real well, so hopefully he comes back on top of his game.
"I thought his game took a little bit of a dip before he went out with injury and maybe it was bothering him a little bit, I'm not for certain, but we saw [Tyson] Jost come back real strong and [J.T.] Compher come back real strong, so hopefully Kerf can do the exact same thing."
Philipp Grubauer will be in net for Colorado against Montreal. He owns a 7-2-3 record this season and made 24 saves in his last start on Dec. 14 at the St. Louis Blues, a 4-3 overtime loss for the Avs.
