The win moved the Finns back into second place in Group B with a 4-0-0-1 record and 12 points, one point behind the United States for the lead. The two countries wrap up pool play against one another on Tuesday.
Rantanen opened the scoring at 8:50 of the first period, as his shot from the left circle went off the stick on Canada's Brayden Schenn (St. Louis Blues) and past goaltender Curtis McElhinney (Toronto Maple Leafs).
The Nousiainen native made it a 3-1 game after tallying a power-play goal at the left of the crease with 3:25 remaining before the first intermission.

Rantanen now has three goals and five assists after five games at the 2018 Worlds. His eight points are tied for seventh overall at the tournament.
Canada's only marker came from Jean-Gabriel Pageau (Ottawa Senators) at 10:55 of the first period that briefly tied the contest at 1-1, but Janne Pesonen gave the Finns back the lead less than three minutes later. Team Canada (3-0-1-1) entered the contest having outscored its last three opponents by a 21-1 margin.
Avs forward Tyson Jost of Canada finished the game with a plus-1 rating in 8:43 of ice time.

The Canadians, who are currently in fourth place in the pool, will look to respond on Monday against Latvia. They wrap up the preliminary round on Tuesday versus Germany.
Next up for Finland is a Sunday contest against Germany before the big matchup with the United States. The winner of the Finland-USA outing on Tuesday will likely to take the top seed into the quarterfinals from the group.

Russia (4) vs Switzerland (3)

The Swiss rallied in the third period but couldn't close the gap, losing 4-3 to Russia at Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.
After a scoreless opening frame, Team Russia's offense came alive in the middle period as it took a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
Switzerland began to chip away at the deficit in the third period, with the Avalanche's Sven Andrighetto scoring his second goal of the World Championship at 11:52 of the stanza.
Former Colorado forward Mikhail Grigroenko of Russia tallied his fourth of the tournament with 3:43 to play to extend the lead back to two goals, but Team Switzerland's Gaetan Haas scored during a 6-on-4 less than two minutes later to set up a frantic finish.
The Swiss outshot Russia (4-0-1-0) 13-8 in the third period and 27-23 overall but weren't able to even the score.
Andrighetto assisted on Haas' goal, setting up the tip-in tally with a shot from the point. The Avs forward also had three shots on goal, a 50-percent success rate in faceoffs (2-for-4) and a minus-1 rating in 19:52 of ice time in the outing.
Switzerland is in fourth place in Group A with a 2-1-1-1 record (nine points). It has a one-point edge on Slovakia for the last spot into the quarterfinals from the group.
The Swiss have two more games left in preliminary round, as they'll face Group A-leader Sweden on Sunday and France on Tuesday.
