Canada only needed 46 seconds in overtime to defeat Latvia 2-1 at Jyske Bank Boxen on Monday in the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) collected his own rebound and batted the puck into Latvia's net in the extra frame to help Canada earn its third win of the tournament in Herning, Denmark.
Colorado Avalanche forward Tyson Jost played 16:53 and recorded two shots on goal in the contest. The 20-year-old was on Canada's third line with Jordan Eberle (New York Islanders) and Bo Horvat (Vancouver Canucks).

The New York Islanders' Anthony Beauvillier scored Canada's only goal in regulation, 2:51 into the first period, and Kristians Rubins recorded Latvia's tally early in the third.
Canadian goalie Darcy Kuemper (Arizona Coyotes) made 14 saves in the victory while his squad outshot Latvia 33-15.
Team Canada is in third place in Group B with 12 points and a 3-1-1-1 record. It is one point ahead of Denmark and trails Team Finland by one for the second position.
Canada wraps up preliminary-round play on Tuesday afternoon against Germany, with a possibility of moving into second place. The team can't catch Team USA, which has 16 points, for first place in the group.

Czech Republic (4) vs. Austria (3)

Austria made a strong push late, but the Czech Republic held onto its lead to earn a 4-3 win on Monday at Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It was the seventh and final preliminary-round game of the 2018 IIHF World Championship for the Czechs, who are in third place in Group A with 15 points and a 3-3-0-1 record.
Avalanche prospect, goaltender Pavel Francouz, was between the pipes for Czechia and made 24 saves in his fourth game of the tournament.
Team Czech Republic took a 2-0 lead just 2:27 into the contest, but Austria cut the lead in half before the first intermission.
At the beginning of the third period, Austria had 100 seconds of a 5-on-3 advantage, but Francouz and Czech's penalty kill did not surrender a goal and took a 4-1 lead shortly after with a Tomas Hyka power-play tally.
Forward Michael Raffl (Philadelphia Flyers) scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the contest for Austria, but the team could not put another puck past Francouz.
The matchup concluded Austria's tournament as the team finished in seventh place in Group A with four points and a 1-0-1-5 record.
The Czech Republic will face the Group B runner-up on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
