Friday, March 2, will be "Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day," a day for fans to show off their favorite hockey teams' jerseys. "Try Hockey Day" is Saturday, March 3, as more than 400 rinks in 46 states will host a Try Hockey for Free event to give kids that have never played or have limited experience a chance to try the sport for free. To cap off the weekend, "Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes Day" will take place on Sunday, March 4, encouraging all involved in the game to develop ways to honor their local hockey heroes.
As part of Hockey Weekend Across America, the NHL will honor the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team at its Coors Light NHL Stadium Series outdoor game between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Colorado Avalanche will help support area rinks on "Try Hockey Day" by giving children between the ages of 4 and 9 the chance to try youth hockey free of charge. The club will host two events on the Avalanche's home ice at Pepsi Center on March 1 and 6, and 11 other Colorado rinks will hold free clinics over the weekend; in Centennial, Colorado Springs, Breckenridge, Denver, Durango, Grand Junction, Greeley, Littleton, Monument, Superior and Westminster.
Equipment will be provided for children attending the Try Hockey clinics and no experience is required to participate. More information on 'Try Hockey' clinics, including registration and a list of all participating ice rinks can be found at
