2006 OLYMPICS: Let The Games Begin

Peter Budaj made 20 saves to backstop Slovakia to a 5-3 upset over Russia and Joe Sakic had two assists to help Canada to a 7-2 victory over host Italy in the first day of men's ice hockey action at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

John-Michael Liles had one assist as Team USA skated to a 3-3 tie against Karlis Skrastins and Latvia. David Aebischer played the third period of Switzerland's 5-0 loss to Antti Laaksonen and Finland. Czech Republic won 4-1 over Germany and Sweden beat Kazakhstan 7-2.
