OTTAWA - Earlier today the National Capital Commission (NCC) announced RendezVous LeBreton, which submitted an extensive proposal entitled IllumiNATION LeBreton, as the preferred proponent to redevelop LeBreton Flats, a 53-acre site on the western edge of downtown Ottawa.

Eugene Melnyk, along with a 135-member team of urban planners, transportation experts, architects, environmental advisors and technical experts collectively spent more than 14 months to develop their 2,000-page proposal which was submitted to the NCC on Dec. 15, 2015.
On Thursday, April 28, the NCC determined RendezVous LeBreton's proposal as the highest ranked allowing the group a six month period to further advance the development of its concept.
"Today's decision by the NCC to grant us preferred proponent status is the culmination of thousands of hours of work by a 135-member expert team and countless others who shared our vision for LeBreton Flats. We are proud of the fact that many of our team members live in the National Capital Region and understand the history of LeBreton Flats and how transformative this project will be for the nation's capital," said Melnyk. "On behalf of our dedicated team, I would like to thank the National Capital Commission and its Board of Directors for sharing our vision of creating a signature destination and a modern urban community to welcome even more visitors to the National Capital Region."
The NCC will be providing RendezVous LeBreton with additional important information on the process. In light of this, there will be no further comments beyond these statements from any members of RendezVous LeBreton.
The RendezVous LeBreton group has, with the permission of the NCC, reactivated its IllumiNATION LeBretonwebsite today in order to provide the media and general public with easy access to details on its winning proposal. The website is
