CAPITALS (32-9-6) at SENATORS (25-15-5)
7:30 p.m. ET; RDS2, TSN5, CSN-DC+, NHL.TV

Capitals team scope

The Washington Capitals are 12-0-2 in their past 14 games and will be looking to equal their record for consecutive games with a point (14-0-1 in 2009-10). A win will also give the Capitals a season sweep of the Ottawa Senators, the only team to hold them to less than four goals in their past 13 games (Jan. 7). "They're basically destroying everybody right now and defending extremely well," Senators coach Guy Boucher said. Captain Alex Ovechkin needs one goal to tie Michel Goulet (548) on the NHL's all-time list. He has scored 23 goals in 39 games against Ottawa. Forward Nicklas Backstrom will play his 700th NHL game. Goaltender Braden Holtby made 25 saves in the Capitals' 6-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday but has not started the second of a back to back this season.

Senators team scope

Forward Mike Hoffman, tied for the Senators lead with 17 goals, did not participate in the morning skate because of an illness and is a game-time decision. Defenseman Mark Borowiecki will miss his fourth straight game because of the flu. Goaltender Mike Condon will start his 14th straight game, is 7-4-2 in his past 13 starts and will be making his 23rd consecutive appearance. Ottawa is coming off a 7-6 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday but is 5-1-1 following a four-game losing streak and has points in nine of its past 11 home games (5-2-4). The Senators will induct former coach and general manager, and now senior hockey adviser, Bryan Murray as the first member of their Ring of Honour before the game.
