The Tampa Bay Lightning drafted Keefe in the second round (47th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. The feisty winger starred in the OHL, where in each of his two seasons he surpassed the 100-point plateau. Keefe was the OHL's leading scorer in 1999-2000, when he posted 121 points (48 goals, 73 assists) in 66 games. Keefe joined the Lightning for part of the 2000-01 campaign, making his debut Oct. 18, 2000. He finished the year with four goals in 49 games.
