Philadelphia's Justin Williams: Helping Philly Fly Higher by NHL | Oct. 1, 2003

This year the Philadelphia Flyers hope a healthy Justin Williams will help them return to championship form. Justin, who is entering his fourth year in the NHL, was forced to miss the last 36 games of the 2002-03 regular season after he partially tore his ACL in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 18. Ouch! The young star did manage to return to the Flyers' lineup for the Playoffs where he was one of Philly's most exciting forwards—tallying 6 points during their Playoff run—now he and his teammates hope that this year's run will end with a hoist of the Cup!

Williams entered the NHL with a bang when he scored a goal and added two assists in his first NHL game on October 5, 2000, and then went on to score a point in each of his first three games! Justin, who will turn 22 in October, had 25 points in his rookie campaign back in 2000-01, and went on to nearly double that total by tallying career highs in goals (17) and assists (23) in his sophomore season. His teammates awarded Williams with the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy as the Flyer who had most improved from the previous season, and he hopes to continue to develop his skills in this year's run for the Cup.

After a long off-season filled with workouts, practices and hours of bubble hockey, the Canadian right-winger has told Flyer fans that he is aching to get the season started especially after watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles play. In a recent online journal entry, Williams said that he wants to "…get back into the groove of things, and let people know that hockey is back." Coach Ken Hitchcock plans on making NHL fans notice. You should be able to see defensemen chasing Williams and his long hair around rinks this year as he and linemates Simon Gagne and Michal Handzus take the NHL by storm!
