Late goal gives Kings win over Ducks

Corey Perry extended his remarkable points streak to 19 games, but it was the Los Angeles Kings who left the Honda Center with two points on Tuesday night.

Brad Richardson broke a 3-3 tie when he redirected Jack Johnson's shot with 2:20 remaining in regulation and Jonathan Quick made 27 saves as the Kings earned a 4-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks in the first meeting of the season between the cross-town rivals.

''The rivalry is heating up,'' Kings coach Terry Murray said. ''It's always a good game whenever the Kings play the Ducks. There is good intensity and good players on both teams. The way the game went, we got a lead, they come back and tie it up. They've got great players that respond well to the challenge. It made for a fun game.''

The game-winner was originally awarded to Johnson -- who had two assists -- but was later given to Richardson after replays showed he did in fact touch the puck. It was his first goal of the season.

"I do think Richey got a piece of it," Johnson admitted. "It was a huge goal for us and it was a great way for him to get his first. The guys were just awesome. They laid it all on the line there in the last two minutes. It's a great win for us."

Perry had a goal and an assist to extend his streak to 19 games, tied for the longest by an NHL player since Paul Stastny's 20-game run in 2006-07. Sidney Crosby also had a 19-game streak for Pittsburgh two seasons ago.

Jonas Hiller made 38 saves for the Ducks, who are 16 points out of a playoff spot and 10 behind Los Angeles. Anaheim finished its six-game homestand with a record of 4-2-1.

The Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Scott Parse scored his second goal of the season just 5:11 into the game before Justin Williams converted on a power play at 11:33 when he redirected Jarret Stoll's shot past Hiller. The goal ended a 0-for-13 drought with the man advantage for Los Angeles.

''The Ducks have a good team over there, so it helps when you jump on them real quick,'' Kings forward Anze Kopitar said. ''We were fortunate to score a quick two goals. I thought we controlled the game from there. They got back in the third period, but we didn't lose it. We kept going and we got rewarded in the end.''

Perry then continued his remarkable run when he deflected a shot from James Wisniewski past Quick at 14:41. Incredibly, it ended an eight-game goal drought for Perry, who now has 14 goals and 19 assists.

Randy Jones restored the Kings' two-goal lead 6:40 into the second period on a long drive from the left circle. But Ryan Whitney cut it to 3-2 on the power play at 17:28, just moments after the Ducks failed to capitalize on a brief two-man advantage.

Todd Marchant tied the game with 14:31 left in regulation, as he beat Matt Greene to a rebound after Quick made an initial save on Matt Beleskey. The assist was Beleskey's first NHL point.

"It was hard because we pulled even," Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer said. "But if you look at the game as a whole, we gave them a start there and had to battle back. You can't count on coming back and winning the game in a shootout or overtime. We were there and had that opportunity, but it didn't go our way. We have to get back to playing the way we were prior to these last couple of games."
