The Calgary Flames let another lead to slip away on Tuesday night.

Granted, it was only a one-goal edge this time, but the Flames allowed Anton Stralman and Kristian Huselius to score 2:04 apart during the second period in a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Stralman's goal came via the power play.

One night hours earlier, the Flames watched a 5-0 lead slip away in an improbable 6-5 overtime loss at Chicago that was sealed by Brent Seabrook's tally 26 seconds into the extra session.

Curtis Glencross scored the lone goal for Calgary with 3:41 remaining in the opening period. Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves in the loss.

Flames coach Brent Sutter said his team didn't come into the game thinking about the one that got away in Chicago.

"Our mindsets were right coming into the game tonight," Sutter said. "We had a good first period and then we backed off in the second period. We took a couple of penalties and that changed things for us. In the third, we started to make another push the last six or seven minutes. In a tight game like this on the road, we kind of shot ourselves in the foot in the second and that kind of took the momentum away from us there for a while with a couple of quick penalties and a couple of quick goals on their part."

In contrast, things are looking up in Columbus.

At 4-1-0, the Blue Jackets are off the best start in franchise history. Mason made 22 saves -- including a glove stop on Eric Nystrom late in the game -- in the team's latest victory. Mason bounced back nicely after being pulled in a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks last Thursday.

"We got stronger and stronger as the game went on," Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We earned (power plays) because of our hard work and the ability to keep the puck in the offensive zone. We, to a man, competed at a very high level. We rolled four deep (lines) into the hockey game. We played really good today. We reloaded hard and put pressure on them from the back end and that's the only way you can play."

Glencross broke a scoreless tie with his second goal of the season, as he managed to redirect Rene Bourque's wrist shot from the left circle past Steve Mason. Bourque, who leads the Flames with nine points, has a four-game point streak.

Stralman got Columbus on the board when his slap shot off a faceoff beat Kiprusoff at 15:32 of the second. Huselius then gave the Blue Jackets the lead with a wrister off the right wing. Columbus captain Rick Nash assisted on both goals to extend his streak of multipoint games to four.
 
"We aren't used to this," Nash said of the Blue Jackets' fast start. "You know, it's fun. We've got a great group of guys. Everyone's tight and you know it shows on the ice. We're helping each other in games, playing well on the road, and it's fun to win."
