TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Alex Ovechkin celebrated his 50th goal of the season with some showboating antics that were anything but spontaneous.

After the milestone goal early in Washington's 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday night, the 23-year-old Russian superstar placed his stick on the ice behind the goal and pretended to warm his hands over it.

"He told me he was going to do it," said Capitals defenseman Mike Green, who scored his 26th and 27th goals. "He wanted me to join in, but there was no way I'd join in on that. I just kind of stood back and let him do what he does."

Tampa Bay coach Rick Tocchet was upset about the unsportsmanlike display.

"I think he's a terrific player. He went down a notch in my books after that," Tocchet said. "It's not something I like. It's hard for me to accept, to see something like that in our building."

Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said he planned to speak to Ovechkin.

"He celebrates, but I think that was a little planned out," Boudreau said.

Ovechkin, who also had two assists, scored 7:43 into the first period to become Washington's first three-time 50-goal scorer.

The Russian took a pass from center Nicklas Backstrom and carried the puck up the right side. Ovechkin deked Matt Pettinger out of position and snapped a wrist shot from the right circle past rookie goalie Mike McKenna.

"It feels pretty good actually," Ovechkin said. "Today was a lucky goal, I think. It's done right now. No pressure. Nothing."

Ovechkin has 213 goals in 315 career regular-season games. He had 52 goals as a rookie in 2005-06, 46 in 2006-07 and 65 last season.

Michael Nylander and Matt Bradley added goals in Washington's ninth straight victory over Tampa Bay. Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis scored for the Lightning.

At Vancouver, British Columbia, Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and first in four months, and the Canucks extended their franchise-record home winning streak to 11 games.

Alex Burrows, Mason Raymond and Henrik Sedin scored to help Vancouver pass Chicago for fourth place in the Western Conference. Vancouver, 16-3-1 since ending a nine-game home losing streak, also moved within three points of Calgary for the Northwest Division lead.

At San Jose, Calif., Jonathan Cheechoo scored the winning shootout goal with a deft backhand, and Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves for the Sharks.

Rob Blake and Milan Michalek scored early goals for San Jose, which moved one point behind NHL-leading Detroit with its fourth victory in 10 games.

Joel Ward and Vernon Fiddler scored first-period goals for Nashville, tied with Edmonton for seventh in the West. The Predators finished a key four-game Western trip with six points.

At Boston, Dustin Brown scored with 34 seconds left in overtime for Los Angeles after Kings rookie Drew Doughty tied it with 1:36 remaining in regulation.

Brown converted a rebound of Sean O'Donnell's shot for his 24th goal, capping a comeback from a 2-0 deficit midway through the third period. Michal Handzus scored on a power play for Los Angeles with 10:10 left in the third.

Matt Hunwick and Mark Recchi scored for Boston.

At Ottawa, Jason Spezza scored goals 52 seconds apart in the first period, and Brian Elliott made 28 saves in his seventh straight victory for the Senators.

Daniel Alfredsson added a goal and an assist, and Nick Foligno and Jarkko Ruutu also scored for Ottawa, which has won three in a row and seven of eight.

Guillaume Latendresse had two goals, and Alex Tanguay and Tom Kostopoulos also scored for Montreal. The Canadiens, tied for seventh in the East, have lost four in a row to drop to 1-2-2 since general manager Bob Gainey took over as coach after firing Guy Carbonneau.

At Glendale, Ariz., Bobby Ryan scored the winner in a shootout, and Anaheim tied Dallas and Minnesota for ninth place in the West.

Phoenix tied it on Matthew Lombardi's goal with 2:31 left in regulation.

Drew Miller, called up from Iowa of the AHL earlier in the day, and Petteri Nokelainen scored in regulation for Anaheim. Nokelainen was credited with a goal after Phoenix's Kyle Turris deflected the puck into his own net.

Zbynek Michalek also scored for Phoenix.

At Sunrise, Fla., Stephen Weiss had a short-handed goal and an assist, and Tomas Vokoun made 37 saves to help the Panthers end a four-game losing streak.

Richard Zednik and Ville Peltonen also scored, and David Booth had two assists. Florida is ninth in the East, a point behind Montreal and Carolina in the race for one of the eight playoff spots. Mikhail Grabovski scored for Toronto.

At Denver, Sam Gagner had three goals and an assist, and Dwayne Roloson made 26 saves in his Edmonton-record 26th straight start.

Ethan Moreau, Shawn Horcoff, Fernando Pisani, Ales Kotalik and Sheldon Souray also scored for the Oilers. Cody McLeod scored for Colorado.
