DENVER (AP) - Repetition has been good for Jussi Jokinen in shootouts.
``I've used the same move and the same shot on all my shootouts,'' said Jokinen, who is 7-for-7 using the backhander in shootouts. ``So why change up on something that is working.''
Stu Barnes tied the game with 1:59 left in regulation against Colorado rookie goalie Peter Budaj. Jason Arnott added a goal for the Stars, who are 7-0 in shootouts.
``I've used the same move on Budaj in a preseason and a regular season shootout this year,'' Jokinen said. ``He might have known what's coming, but he never stopped any of them.''
Marty Turco made 37 saves. He stopped Joe Sakic and Alex Tanguay in the shootout, and allowed a goal to Marek Svatos. Turco had stopped all nine previous shots in shootouts before Svatos scored.
``We were fortunate to win in a shootout,'' Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. ``Marty was excellent and he made some big saves for us, and we found a couple of ways to score.''
Rob Blake and Tanguay scored goals for Colorado. Budaj had 28 saves, but had no chance against Zubov and Jokinen.
``We would have loved to get two points there, but they got a fortunate break and a bounce,'' Colorado coach Joel Quenneville said. ``We had those opportunities all night at their end and we couldn't get the next one.''
Dallas peppered Budaj with quality chances early, but trailed 1-0 after one period. Budaj got to a screened shot by Stephane Robidas and Nathan Perrott's deflected attempt in the first six minutes.
Blake put the Avalanche ahead with a power-play goal at 16:15. Andrew Brunette found Blake, who beat Turco with a one-timer from the lower right circle.
The Avalanche lead was 2-0 after Tanguay's 22nd goal of the season at 2:21 of the second period. John-Michael Liles hit Tanguay in stride at the blue line and Tanguay faked Turco to the ice and put the puck into the net.
Turco kept it a two-goal game, making several spectacular saves. Arnott rewarded the effort by converting a one-timer at 16:30 with the Stars on the power play.
Budaj stopped shots from Guerin and Arnott at the start of the third period. He denied two scoring chances by the same pair midway through the final period and with Brett McLean off for hooking.
But with Stars applying pressure, Colorado defenseman Patrice Brisbois turned the puck over in the corner and Philippe Boucher fed Barnes in front of the net with 1:59 left in regulation.
``We gave up the game,'' Budja said. ``I have to work on not giving up goals like that in the last two minutes when we have games in our hands.''
Tanguay had three chances to win in overtime. He missed a wide open net a minute into overtime and two shots on a breakaway that Turco turned away.
``I got lucky on the open net,'' Turco said. ``Boucher helped me with Tanguay's next two shots by deflecting just enough of the puck.''
