Calgary Flames 4, Phoenix Coyotes 0 FINAL

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) _ With Jarome Iginla on the ice, Calgary didn't need its missing forwards.

Iginla scored his 39th goal, Roman Turek earned his second straight shutout and the Flames snapped a two-game skid by beating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-0 Wednesday night.

Iginla, who also had an assist, is tied with Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk and Columbus' Rick Nash for the NHL lead in goals. But he was focused on the sixth-place Flames' race for the playoffs.

``It's hard not to watch the other teams on the scoreboard,'' Iginla said. ``But we realize that's a huge win, a huge step toward the playoffs. It makes it closer now. We've just got to finish it.''

The Flames played without forwards Krzysztof Oliwa, who drew a three-game suspension, Chris Simon and Dean McAmmond.

Simon began a two-game suspension for kneeing Sergei Zubov of Dallas on Monday night, and McCammond was scratched because of injury.

But it never slowed Calgary's production.

Craig Conroy had a goal and an assist, Marcus Nilson and Martin Gelinas added goals, and Denis Gauthier had two assists for the Flames.

Turek, who beat St. Louis 3-0 in his last start on March 14, made 22 saves.

``I played the last game against St. Louis, and that was a big game for us, and now another big game, because we lost two games in a row and we needed the points,'' Turek said. ``So I was ready. But it's a little bit difficult situation if you don't play every night.''

Brent Johnson stopped 27 shots for the Coyotes, who beat Minnesota in overtime Monday to snap the third-longest winless streak in franchise history at 15 games. They are 1-9-4-3 in their last 17.

The Coyotes took 12 shots in the first period, then fizzled with two in the second.

``We got away from our game,'' captain Shane Doan said. ``We played solid in the first with energy and skated hard.''

Calgary coach and general manager Darryl Sutter completed his two-game suspension for his part in a brawl Saturday against Nashville, which included sending enforcer Oliwa onto the ice in the final seconds of a 3-1 loss.

The Flames took the fight out of the Coyotes by scoring twice in the first 3:45 of the third period to take a 4-0 lead.

Iginla's speed figured in his goal 41 seconds in. He got the puck from Conroy after a faceoff, raced through the neutral zone, squeezed between defenseman Radoslav Suchy and the boards and turned up in the circle for an open shot that went in off Johnson's stick.

``When your best players are your best players, it gives you a chance to win,'' Calgary assistant coach Jim Playfair said. ``That's what we had to have.''

Gelinas added a power-play goal 3:04 later after officials decided that his glove deflection of a slap shot by Gauthier was low enough to count.

``We were right there with them,'' Coyotes coach Rick Bowness said. ``The third period unfortunately starts out with that bad Iginla goal and that crazy fourth goal.''

Nilson beat Johnson with a one-timer in the slot with 8:49 left in the first period.

Calgary only managed one shot during a four-minute power play early in the second _ served by Krys Kolanos for high-sticking Conroy, who was forced to seek attention for an eye injury in the dressing room.

But Conroy was back on the ice shortly after, and made it 2-0 with 9:09 left in the second when he wristed a shot over Johnson's left shoulder. The sequence began when Gauthier fielded a long rebound of a shot by Doan and passed it to Iginla on the right wing.

Conroy faded toward the opposite circle, and Iginla sent him an accurate crossing pass.
