Florida Panthers 2, Chicago Blackhawks 2 FINAL OT

Tuesday, 08.16.2011 / 5:54 AM

CHICAGO (AP) _ Valeri Bure turned a deflected pass into an opportunistic goal.

Bure's power-play goal with 7:16 left in the third period lifted the Florida Panthers to a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

After skating down the slot, Bure tipped a perfect cross-ice feed from Olli Jokinen past Michael Leighton high on the stick side.

But Jokinen claimed he was trying to pass to defenseman Lyle Odelein, not Bure.

``I tried to go to Odie, but the puck hit the defenseman's stick or something and went right to Val's stick,'' Jokinen said. ``A little lucky there.''

The play and the results looked just fine to Bure.

``I saw the puck coming toward me,'' Bure said. ``I didn't see Odie on the left side. I put the stick on it and deflected it into the top corner.''

Niklas Hagman also scored from the Panthers, who have lost only once in seven games (3-1-3).

Tuomo Ruutu scored and assisted on Kyle Calder's goal for the Blackhawks. Calder, playing in his third full NHL season, reached 20 goals for the first time.

Florida's Roberto Luongo made 43 saves. Leighton made 30.

``(Luongo) gives them a lot of confidence,'' Blackhawks coach Brian Sutter said. ``He made a lot of big-time saves tonight, especially on the power play.''

Chicago was 2-for-8 with the man advantage. Florida went 1-for-5 on the power play.

Panthers defenseman Mike Van Ryn narrowly missed a chance to score a game-winning goal during a power play late in overtime.

Florida was awarded a power play at 3:18 of overtime when Vandermeer hooked Matt Cullen. Van Ryn hit the post with a shot with one minute left.

``I don't know how it stayed out,'' Van Ryn said. ``It bounced out behind (Leighton), I think. It just maybe wasn't meant to be,''

Calder opened the scoring during a five-on-three power play with 7:27 left in the first. While standing 15 feet out, he deflected Jim Vandermeer's shot from the top of the slot between Luongo's pads.

Hagman tied it 1-all 49 seconds into the second period. After taking a pass from Jokinen, Hagman cut across the slot, pulled Leighton to the ice and tucked in a shot from the left edge of the crease.

Ruutu scored a four-on-three goal at 8:47 of the third to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.

Moments after the Panthers were penalized for having too many men on the ice, Ruutu skated down the right side and cut to the net around Lyle Odelein. He then stuffed a low shot past Luongo.

Midway through overtime, Luongo made a close-in glove save on Mark Bell.
