NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nashville's Chris Mason felt a bit cheated after his first NHL shutout.
Mason made 33 saves for the Predators, but Los Angeles' Roman Cechmanek stopped 29 shots in a 0-0 tie Tuesday night.
"Normally you would expect to win games that you don't let any goals in," Mason said. "Roman Cechmanek played awesome, too, on his end. That's just the way this game went.
"Obviously, you strive not to let any goals in. It's a pretty cool feeling to do it."
Cechmanek stopped 29 shots for his fifth shutout of the season and the 25th of his career.
The Predators were playing their seventh game in 11 nights and the fatigue was hard to hide.
"I thought we were real sloppy in the first period and that was probably due to a couple of things," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We don't have any excuses, but we have played seven games in 11 nights. ... Our guys aren't mentally as sharp as they could be.
"In the third period, when we should have been the most tired, we played real hard. That's when we probably had the most chances."
Even if his team had been at the top of its game, Trotz expected a defensive challenge from the Kings.
"We knew this was going to be a real tough game," Trotz said. "They always play us a real tight defensive game. I knew they were going to frustrate us with a real defensive game and hope to capitalize on some chances. But we were able to fight through that.
The Kings are winless in their last 13 games. Los Angeles coach Andy Murray was happy with the tie.
"In the last week the Predators have beaten Detroit, Colorado and St. Louis," Murray said. "Those are three pretty good teams. Nashville has a very good team right now. It is a credit to our guys that we tied them."
It was the second straight tie for both teams. Nashville was coming off a 3-3 tie in Minnesota on Monday night, and Los Angeles tied Columbus 2-2 on Saturday night.
The 0-0 tie was the second for the Predators. The last time it happened was March 21, 2001, at Minnesota.
The Predators nearly scored with four minutes left in regulation, but Denis Arkhipov's wrist shot from the slot bounced off the left goal post.
The Predators are 3-2-6 this season in overtime games. The Kings are 1-4-9.
