Tampa Bay Lightning 4, Montréal Canadiens 1 FINAL

MONTREAL (AP) -- Martin St. Louis was eager to thank his fans for sending him to the All-Star game.

St. Louis had two goals and two assists for his first career four-point game, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

Named an All-Star starter in fan voting results announced before the game, St. Louis increased his team-leading points total to 36 in 39 games.

"It's a great honor," St. Louis said. "It's an individual thing -- I don't try to really pay attention to that. I'm going to enjoy my time when I'm there, but there's a lot of business to be done until then with this hockey team and that's really the most important thing."

St. Louis assisted on Fredrik Modin's short-handed goal early in the second, and scored at 4:49 to put Tampa Bay up 2-1. He assisted on Ruslan Fedotenko's goal later in the period, and added his second of the game -- his 14th of the season -- in the third.

"I thought we could take them out of the game if we scored that next goal," St. Louis said. "If they score to make it 3-2, it's a different game. I was more happy about making it 4-1 than actually getting four points."

John Grahame made 14 saves for Tampa Bay, which won for the second time in three games while outshooting Montreal 27-15.

"Martin and I play really well together," said Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier, who made a sensational pass to set up St. Louis' first goal. "I hope it continues. It's just four or five games that we've been together. He's got a lot of speed and every time I have the puck, I look to pass to him because he can finish the play."

Pierre Dagenais scored a power-play goal for the Canadiens, who had their three-game winning streak and five-game unbeaten streak snapped, both of which tied season highs.

Canadiens goalie Jose Theodore, who hadn't allowed more than one goal through regulation in his seven previous starts, lost for the first time in his last six starts.

"It was one of those nights where the puck wasn't really sticking to me," Theodore said. "It was difficult for everybody, me included."

The Canadiens were on a power play to begin the second when St. Louis sent Modin in alone on Theodore with a breakaway pass up the middle. Modin faked left and reached back with his stick to steer the puck past Theodore into the open right side for his 11th goal of the season.

Dagenais tied it before the end of the power play when he scored for the second straight game just 24 seconds later at 1:16, batting his own fanned shot past Grahame.

Lecavalier made an outstanding pass on St. Louis' go-ahead goal at 4:49. Lecavalier came down the left side and turned to make a sharp back pass across to St. Louis, who fired a shot past Theodore to restore the Lightning's lead.

"I was really dead tired on that shift, and I was actually on a line change," St. Louis said. "When I saw Vinnie turn his back, I knew he was coming with a backhand pass in the area. He knew I was there and I just stayed there."

St. Louis got his second assist when Fedotenko made it 3-1 at 13:42 with his sixth goal.

St. Louis closed out the scoring with a slap shot past Theodore 3:41 into the third.
