Philadelphia Flyers 1, Tampa Bay Lightning 6 FINAL

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Fredrik Modin and the Tampa Bay Lightning broke out of scoring slumps in a big way.

Modin scored three goals, and the Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-1 Saturday night.

"Obviously it's a great feeling scoring a hat trick, especially in your own building," Modin said. "The crowd really just goes nuts. It really feels great."

Modin had not scored in his previous 13 games but rebounded for his second career hat trick.

Tampa Bay had scored only nine goals in its previous seven games. Vincent Lecavalier, Ben Clymer and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored for the Lightning, who won for the fifth time in 21 games (5-12-4).

The Lightning are 2-6-2 in their last 10 home games.

"I'm glad that we got the result ... that's very important," Lightning coach John Tortorella said. "The thing I liked is how we answered mentally. We didn't take a step back."

Donald Brashear scored for Philadelphia, 2-3-1-1 through seven games of a season-high, eight-game road trip.

"We're not getting the effort that we did before," Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said. "They outcompeted us. Quite frankly, in every aspect of our game, we got beat in all the competitive areas. We're not competing and we have to get back to that."

Modin scored three straight goals after Brashear put the Flyers ahead 1-0 at 7:14 of the first.

Modin tied it at 1 from the slot three minutes later at 10:35. Modin scored twice during the opening 4:41 of the second.

He jammed a loose puck past Robert Esche at 1:15 during a power play and then slid a puck between the goalie's pads just over three minutes later. Jeff Hackett replaced Esche -- who allowed three goals on 12 shots -- after Modin's third goal.

"They played really well," Philadelphia's Jeremy Roenick said. "We played really bad."

Hackett allowed Lecavalier's goal at 6:17 on the first shot he faced as the Lightning went up 4-1. Clymer and former Flyers player Fedotenko scored 11 seconds apart late in the third, which set a franchise record for the fastest two goals.

It was Clymer's first goal in 34 games.

"We have been working hard and we've been playing well offensively," Modin said. "It's just the puck hasn't gone in for us."

Brad Richards had three assists, and Nikolai Khabibulin made 18 saves to improve to 3-10 against Philadelphia.
