Smith, 25, has compiled a 21-14-3 record in 38 games with Springfield this season while registering a 2.78 goals-against-average and .898 save-percentage. The 6-0, 180-pound netminder is 3-1-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .949 SV% in his last four appearances with the Falcons.

Nashville’s second pick, 54th overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith was signed by Columbus last summer after spending three seasons with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. He has a career AHL record of 87-60-10 with a 2.48 GAA, .904 SV% and nine shutouts in 166 games with Milwaukee and Springfield.

A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Smith represented the United States at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships, recording four wins and a 2.40 GAA in six tournament appearances. He won the Kelly Cup as a member of the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2009-2010, also earning ECHL Playoff MVP honors after going 9-7 with a 2.67 GAA in 17 postseason appearances.
