At the time of his recall he led the American Hockey League in wins (16), while ranking second in appearances (25) and minutes (1,461), and tied for eighth in goals-against average (2.30).

Started all 13 of Milwaukee’s 2011 Calder Cup Playoff contests, tying for fourth in the playoffs in save percentage (.931) and ranking seventh in goals-against average (2.27).

Played in 28 games for Milwaukee last season as a rookie, posting a 2.26 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in those contests. Smith posted a 10-2-2 record from his first start of 2011 (Jan. 2) to his first start of April 2011 (April 1) with a 1.63 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage.
