Smith, 24, is 11-3-1 with a 2.58 GAA and a .908 SV% in 15 games with the AHL Falcons this season and currently ranks 2nd in the AHL in wins. Nashville’s 2nd pick, 54th overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith was signed by CBJ this past summer after spending 3 seasons with the AHL Admirals. He has a career AHL record of 77-49-8 with a 2.39 GAA, .916 SV% and eight shutouts in 143 games with Milwaukee and Springfield.
A native of Dearborn, MI, Smith represented the United States at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships, registering four wins, a 2.40 GAA and .894 SV% in six games. As a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers in 2006-07, Smith was the co-recipient of the Dave Pinkney Trophy in recognition of having recorded the league’s lowest team GAA and also captured the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champs. In his first season of professional hockey (2009-10), Smith backstopped the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones to a Kelly Cup Championship.
