Kostitsyn, a first-time Olympian, will join his brother, Andrei, competing for Belarus. They will join five other brother combinations competing in Vancouver: Czech Republic’s Milan and Zbynek Michalek; Finland’s Jarkko and Tuomo Ruutu, Mikko and Saku Koivu; Slovakia’s Marian and Marcel Hossa, Sweden’s Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
Kostitsyn was part of the Belarus team at the World Championship in 2008 collecting one assist in four games played.
In 2005 he was part of the Belarus World Under-18 World Championship team that finished first in Group A earning a birth in the main tournament the following year.
At the 2006 World Junior Championship (Group A), Kostitsyn was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and received Top Forward honors leading all players in goals (4), assists (5) and points (9) in five games.
He is, in my opinion, one of the best defensemen in the NHL and continuing to grow. I think his game, from an offensive standpoint, he continues to drive our offense... I think there's still tremendous upside for Oliver.
