A first time Olympian, Malone last played for Team USA at the 2006 World Championship. He finished second in team scoring with four points (2-2-4) playing most of the tournament on a line with fellow 2010 Olympians Dustin Brown and Phil Kessel.

His only international medal came at the 2004 World Championships where he tallied three goals to help the U.S. win a bronze medal.

Malone appeared in 2008 Stanley Cup Final with Pittsburgh with current Team USA teammate Brooks Orpik.
