He owns Tampa Bay franchise records for goals, assists, points, power-play goals, game-winning goals and games played. He was named team captain for the second time prior to the 2008-09 season. <br /> <br /> Lecavalier led the Lightning and ranked seventh in the NHL in scoring in 2007-08 with 92 points (40 goals, 52 assists) in 81 games, becoming the first Tampa Bay player to record consecutive 40-goal seasons. That came on the heels of his 52-goal season in 2006-07, which earned him the Maurice &quot;Rocket&quot; Richard Trophy as the NHL's top goal scorer. Lecavalier set a franchise record by scoring multiple points in eight consecutive games from Nov. 3-19 -- the last NHL player to record as long a streak was Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr in 1996 (10 games). <br /> <br /> Lecavalier has made community giving and charitable work a part of his daily life since joining the Lightning in 1998. In October of 2007, he made his largest commitment yet to the Tampa Bay community, announcing a $3 million pledge to construct the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. Following the 2007-08 season he was awarded a $25,000 grant by the NHL Foundation in recognition of commitment and service to charities in the community. He also received the King Clancy Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution in his community. <br /> <br /> <a name="he"></a><b>HE SAID IT</b><br /> On the emergence of the NHL's young generation of stars entering 2008-09: &quot;It makes me feel old. I am 28 years old. I feel young, but at the same time when you see guys coming in at 18, 19 years old ... it's nice to see new faces. They are young, dynamic players, exciting players to watch.&quot; <br /> <br /> On how he became a Red Wings fan when he was young: &quot;Actually, I was watching the Rock'em Sock'em videos and I saw Steve Yzerman make some unbelievable moves, like a spin-a-rama, then he deked out the goalie. And from then on he was my idol. I was always a big fan of Montreal, but watching Steve Yzerman -- a great captain and a great leader, it was really nice to watch. My friends didn't like when I was wearing my Red Wings jersey, but since it was Steve Yzerman, it was okay.&quot; <br /> <br /> On his second stint as captain of the Lightning: &quot;You're older, you're more experienced. It's like anything you do in life. In your first or second year you're not as good as when you do something ten years later. So I've got more experience and I'm going to keep doing what I do and try to help the guys. And the good thing about our team is that we have a lot of leaders.&quot; <br /> <br /> <a name="they"></a><b>THEY SAID IT</b><br /> Former NHL Coach Pat Burns: &quot;If I was to start a hockey franchise and I had the first pick overall, I'd take Vinny.&quot; <br /> <br /> <a name="news"></a><b>IN THE NEWS</b><br /> <a href="http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=389713&amp;cmpid=rss">For Lecavalier, less seems to be more</a><br /> <a href="http://lightning.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&amp;page=NewsPage&amp;articleid=382347">Lightning name Lecavalier team captain</a><br /> <br /> <a name="video"></a><b>VIDEO FEATURES</b><br /> <a href="http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?&amp;id=22599">My first goal</a><br /> <br /> <span class="txt14Strg">Career All-Star Game Statistics </span> <div style="border: 1px solid rgb(161, 161, 161); margin: 4px 0px; padding: 0px; float: left; width: 660px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" id="asstatsbox"> <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0" class="asstat"> <tbody> <tr class="headrw"> <td>SEASON</td> <td>TEAM</td> <td>Score</td> <td>R</td> <td align="center">GP</td> <td align="center">G</td> <td align="center">A</td> <td align="center">PTS</td> <td align="center">+/-</td> <td align="center">PIM</td> <td align="center">PP</td> <td align="center">SH</td> <td align="center">GW</td> <td align="center">SOG</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2002-03</td> <td>East</td> <td>5-6</td> <td>L</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">-1</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center" class="right">2</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2006-07</td> <td>East</td> <td>9-12</td> <td>L</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">-4</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center" class="right">3</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2007-08</td> <td>East</td> <td>8-7</td> <td>W</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">-1</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center" class="right">3</td> </tr> <tr class="totrw"> <td colspan="4">All-Star Totals</td> <td align="center">3</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">-6</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center" class="right">8</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> <script type="text/javascript">jQuery(function(){ jQuery('#asstatsbox').corner('6px'); });</script>
Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.

— Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau on general manager Bob Murray's decision to sign Dany Heatley
