Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie will have a hearing Saturday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit on Anaheim Ducks defenseman Simon Despres during a game Friday at Honda Center in Anaheim.

Barrie was not penalized for the hit, which took place at 11:30 of the second period. Despres left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

NEW YORK -- Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Nikita Nesterov has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Dallas Stars forward Curtis McKenzie during NHL Game No. 54 in Tampa on Thursday, Oct. 15, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 15:56 of the second period. Nesterov was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Nesterov will forfeit $7,983.88. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Nikita Nesterov have a hearing Friday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit on Dallas Stars forward Curtis McKenzie during a game Thursday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

Nesterov received a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct for the hit at 15:56 of the second period. McKenzie left the game with a lower-body injury and did not return.

NEW YORK – New Jersey Devils forward Jordin Tootoo has been fined $2,217.74, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for a dangerous trip of Nashville Predators defenseman Seth Jones during NHL Game No. 37 in Newark on Tuesday, October 13, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 7:55 of the third period. Tootoo was assessed a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

NEW YORK – San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres has been suspended for 41 games, without pay, for interference and an illegal check to the head against Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game in Anaheim on Saturday, Oct. 3, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 12:45 of the first period. Torres was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head.

San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres will have a hearing Monday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit on Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game Saturday.

Silfverberg was hit by Torres at 12:45 of the first period. He left the game and did not return. Torres received a match penalty for an illegal check to the head.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: illegal check to the head/interference/charging.

Torres waived his right to an in-person hearing Sunday.

Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Akeson will have a hearing Friday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit on Ottawa Senators forward Colin Greening during a preseason game Wednesday.

Greening was hit by Akeson at approximately 7:49 of the third period. No penalty was assessed on the play. Greening left the game and did not return. Akeson received a five-minute fighting major for an altercation with Travis Ewanyk that occurred after the hit.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: charging/illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

NEW YORK -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall has been suspended one game for charging Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov during Game Six of the teams' First Round Eastern Conference series in Detroit on Monday, April 27, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 18:55 of the second period.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall will have a telephone hearing Tuesday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit against Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday.

Kucherov was hit by Kronwall at 19:00 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play and Kucherov remained in the game.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: charging/illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows will not be suspended for Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round series against the Calgary Flames, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced. In Game 3 on Sunday, Burrows received an instigator penalty at 18:35 of the third period in an incident with defenseman Kris Russell.

Any instigator penalty in the last five minutes of a game carries an automatic suspension, subject to review by the Department of Player Safety, as outlined by Rule 46.22. The suspension can be lifted if the incident is deemed not related to the score, previous incidents in the game or prior games, retaliatory in nature, or "message sending."
