'The Red Wing' revealed as 17th NHL Guardian

Monday, 01.17.2011 / 8:00 PM / The Guardian Project

NHL.com

If any Guardian is the epitome of grace and honor, The Red Wing is it.  He is calculating in everything that he does and his decisiveness knows no equal. In the field he acts very much like a general and he expects his men to follow orders without fail.  He's a hunter by nature and he's aggressive in everything he does.  He's not much for reacting and improvising is not his strength but thankfully his attention to detail means that there is rarely a contingency that he hasn't accounted for.

The Capital's back-story centers on his work for the U.S. government.  He believes that he has spent the better part of his life as a CIA operative working on some of the country's most highly classified details.  He is a master interrogator and has a keen sense for assessing any situation.  He can read people just by looking at them and predicting the actions of his adversaries is second nature to him.  He's spent more than a decade working as a spy and has travelled the world. He can speak any language and can adapt to any culture.  In short, the Capital can blend in with any environment and manipulate any situation from the inside. To assist him in his undercover activities, the Capital possesses the ability of shape shifting, which is a necessity for a 7-foot eagle trying to blend in with the crowd.

Thursday, 01.13.2011 / 8:00 PM / The Guardian Project

NHL.com

The Bruin is a big kid - he's curious, adventurous and often finds himself with a ferocious hunger. That being said, few are happier or more mild natured than the Bruin when his belly is full.  Although the Bruin gives off a blue collar vibe, he is one of the well-educated Guardians. This fact is attributable to the Boston area being home to over 100 institutions of higher learning including the oldest University in the United States. The Bruin is incredibly fast, has an uncanny sense of smell and is able to track things from miles away.

The Wild

The Wild is a vision of raw power coupled with brilliant intellect.  He is an intellectual and avid reader, taken from the fact that the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is one of the most highly literate in the Country. At one moment, he is a deadly serious problem solver, the next an irreverent adventurer.

The Wild isn't so much a superhero as he is a force of nature. He only has super abilities when he is in his "Wild" form although his incredible intelligence is nearly a super power on its own.  Knowing his volatile side can be dangerously unpredictable; the Wild chains himself up at night so as not to cause any unnecessary mayhem. The other Guardians respect him and his wild-side but they also know its' destructive potential. As a nod to Minnesota's mining history, the Wild can also use his razor sharp claws to tunnel through the earth's crust allowing him to sneak up on enemy fortresses.

'The Devil' revealed as eighth NHL Guardian

Saturday, 01.08.2011 / 8:00 PM / The Guardian Project

NHL.com

The Devil

The Devil, being a Devil, is mischievous and likes to play practical jokes on all the other Guardians. He is proud to be from New Jersey and is inspired by all the great people who hail from the Garden State.  He's aware that his appearance doesn't exactly scream "one of the good guys" so he goes out of his way to make sure people, especially kids, understand he is one.

Of course the evil villains the Guardians are up against know he's not someone to be messed with. He honestly enjoys confrontation and he's not afraid to jump into any situation with attitude. He's a bipedal humanoid with hoofed feet, a horse's head and the wings of a giant bat, reminiscent of the "Jersey Devil" from which he takes his name. He has the ability to withstand any heat and breathes fire.  He doesn't merely defeat his opponents, he annihilates them. He has a whip-like tail that is comprised of flexible titanium and has barbed hooks at the end. In a fight there is simply no one better to have by your side.

'The Flyer' revealed as sixth NHL Guardian

Thursday, 01.06.2011 / 8:00 PM / The Guardian Project

NHL.com

The Flyer

"The Flyer" is a patriotic American who bleeds red, white and blue (and orange and black of course) but isn't blind to the inequities of the system. He lives to be a leader and loves being the driving force behind making the world a better place. Of course, like his fellow Philadelphians, he has the propensity to let his intensity get the better of him.

As one of the many "Birds" within the NHL Guardian world, the Flyer has the obvious ability of flight. His unique addition to the Guardian "Air Force" is his gift of sight. He can pinpoint objects from 30 thousand feet and is able to see through obstacles making him slightly more valuable in certain situations. He has a titanium eagle that he keeps as a pet and he can see whatever the eagle sees. The Flyer possesses the ability of suggestion meaning he can read an opponent's mind and make them do things against their will. He is the only true telekinetic Guardian, able to move with great force any object he sets his mind to.

'The Sabre' revealed as fifth NHL Guardian

Wednesday, 01.05.2011 / 8:00 PM / The Guardian Project

NHL.com

"The Sabre" spent his pre-super hero life as a scientist specializing in hydro-engineering. He's a man of deep thought, choosing to devote his life to green technology and its applications. His scientific endeavors have allowed him to travel the world and he has been deeply affected by the different cultures he's experienced. The government has tried to make him a liaison, but he's turned them down preferring to travel the world on his own dime and staying under the radar. He's a noble intellectual who would rather outthink his opponent than beat him to smithereens.

As a superhero, The Sabre was the product of a hydroelectric experiment gone awry. As a result his body is totally comprised of water. He uses a specially designed hydro-suit that allows him to control his physical appearance although mostly he chooses a human form.  He has the ability to be liquid, solid or in a gaseous (vapor), state, depending on what's needed for the situation.

Quote of the Day

They said, 'You're going to love the city. It's smaller than Philadelphia, but you're going to love it. You're going to love the fans. Just watching the playoffs last year, the fans seemed louder there than they did anywhere. I'm really excited about that.

— Forward Scott Hartnell on his upcoming season with the Columbus Blue Jackets
