It appeared on two occasions in the Washington Capitals' past three games that captain Alex Ovechkin scored to set the record for most NHL goals scored by a Russian-born player. Each time, though, the apparent goal was taken away following a video review.

Ovechkin will get another chance to pass Sergei Fedorov when the Capitals face the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVA Sports).

Ovechkin has 483 goals in 775 NHL games, the most of any player since he entered the League in 2005. Fedorov had 483 in 1,248 games with the Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Capitals.

"I haven't talked to him about it, but the best advice I can give him is to play your normal game," Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. "He's scored a gazillion goals in this league, and to our team: Don't look for Ovi to score that goal. Don't overpass. He's scored a lot of goals. Play the way we play, and I guarantee you, he will score that goal, and he'll score many after that."

Ovechkin enters the Capitals game Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena (7 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, CSN-DC+, FS-D) tied with new Hall of Fame member Sergei Fedorov for the most NHL goals by a Russian-born player. Ovechkin scored the 483rd goal of his career on Saturday in a 3-2 shootout win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Fedorov finished his NHL career with the Capitals in 2008-09, and Ovechkin assisted on his 483rd goal. Fedorov will be at the game as part of Hockey Hall of Fame night and said he would be delighted to see his former teammate break his record.

The Los Angeles Kings got off to a rough start this season, losing their first three games. That has become a distant memory.

The Kings will be seeking their eighth straight victory when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Monday (8:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, SNE, SNO, SNW, FS-W, CSN-CH).

After scoring two goals in their first three games, the Kings offense has come alive over the past two weeks. Los Angeles has outscored its opponents 22-9 over the course of its seven-game winning streak.

"We're playing with a lot of confidence," defenseman Drew Doughty said, according to LA Kings Insider. "Obviously, we can't let it get too far up into our heads, because when we're playing confident like this and at the same time still trying to do all the right things, we're winning games, and we need to continue winning."

With a win Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens can accomplish what two teams in NHL history have previously: Win the first 10 games of a season.

The 9-0-0 Canadiens, who have trailed for a total of 2:57, will go for their 10th straight victory against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena (10 p.m. ET; RDS, CITYM, SNV). Montreal can match the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres.

Each of the Canadiens' nine wins have come in regulation. Behind the world-class goaltending of Carey Price, they have allowed 12 goals. None of them have come in the first period.

Nobody could have possibly envisioned the Columbus Blue Jackets opening the 2015-16 season with six consecutive regulation losses, but that is the cold, harsh reality staring right in their faces after two weeks.

The Blue Jackets will attempt to put an end to their improbable losing streak when they host the New York Islanders at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; FS-O, MSG+).

New York (3-1-1) is already seven points ahead of Columbus, which was expected to be in the Metropolitan Division race until the very end following the acquisition of forward Brandon Saad and a 15-1-1 finish to last season.

"I don't know what we're waiting for," Blue Jackets forward Scott Hartnell said Saturday after the latest loss, a 4-1 defeat at the Chicago Blackhawks. "I don't know if we're looking for someone else to do it, if we're easing ourselves into games to wait for something bad to happen. That's what I sense when we get playing. We're just waiting instead of doing and doing the right things."

Many hockey pundits predicted the Arizona Coyotes to finish at or near the bottom of the NHL standings this season. Granted, they still have 80 games remaining, but the Coyotes are showing early they're not willing to bow down to anybody.

The Coyotes won their second straight with a 2-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Gila River Arena on Saturday and will look to make it three in a row on Wednesday at the Anaheim Ducks (10:30 p.m. ET; FS-A, PRIME, FS-SD), who have been picked by many to win the Pacific Division.
