Sergei Fedorov, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday, was known as arguably the most dynamic player in the NHL in the 1990s. The forward's world-class skills helped the Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley Cup three times (1997, 1998, 2002).

Fedorov retired from the NHL in 2009 as the all-time leading scorer among Russian players with 483 goals and 696 assists for 1,179 points in 1,248 games. He scored 400 goals and had 554 assists for 954 points in 908 games with the Red Wings. He had 176 points in 183 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Phil Housley will be one of seven individuals be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Nov. 9.

Since joining the Nashville Predators as an assistant coach in May 2013, Phil Housley has been able to share with others those things that benefited him over 21 NHL seasons.

"I like helping in all aspects of the game, whether it's having input with 5-on-5, or working with the defense," Housley said. "Everyone is eager to learn and the players are willing to listen, and that's rewarding. Even veteran players like Shea Weber and Roman Josi are eager to learn.

Phil Housley always was one of the more-skilled forwards on the ice growing up before his high school coach switched him to defense in a move that led Housley to the NHL and, ultimately, the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Housley garnered instant acclaim in his new position under coach Doug Woog. The teenager was one of the more dynamic offensive defensemen in the Minnesota scholastic hockey ranks in the early 1980s, was named all-state, and started getting attention from NHL scouts as a sophomore.

Angela Ruggiero emerged as the United States' finest defenseman during her 15-year career that resulted in her becoming the fourth woman inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Ruggiero won four Olympic medals, including gold at the 1998 Nagano Games, and is one of five U.S. players to compete in four Olympics (Jenny Potter, Julie Chu, Chris Chelios and Keith Tkachuk). She also helped Harvard win a national championship in 1999 and was named the country's top women's collegiate hockey player in 2004.

Ruggiero's extraordinary accomplishments also earned her entry into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Dec. 17.

Angela Ruggiero was 15 in the summer of 1995 when she reported to Lake Placid, N.Y., to try out for the inaugural United States junior national women's team. She caught the eye of Ben Smith, the women's coach at Northeastern University who had been asked by USA Hockey to select a group to play in a friendly series against Finland.

Ruggiero was a bit green, Smith recalled, playing with women in their 20s and early 30s. But there was something about her that reminded him of arguably the finest defenseman in NHL history.

When Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. stands at the podium Monday as part of the Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2015, there will be emotions he hasn't experienced since the final seconds of Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Final were counted down at RBC Center.

"Nervous as hell," Karmanos said. "I was telling [Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis] how nervous I was, and he [was inducted in 2007]. He said, 'You're not alone.' It's going to be interesting. I'm going to have fun."

Defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Pronger are among the players who could be voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday.

The Hall of Fame will announce its Class of 2015 entrants at 4 p.m. ET.

Lidstrom, in his first year on the ballot, is a near-certainty for election into the Hall. He spent his entire 20-season career with the Detroit Red Wings and helped them win the Stanley Cup four times; in 2008 he became the first European-born and -trained player to captain a team to the Cup.

Lidstrom also won the Norris Trophy seven times, one fewer than Bobby Orr's eight. He was a First-Team All-Star 10 times and played in the NHL All-Star Game 11 times.

TORONTO -- The Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2014 was a celebration of greatness at the NHL and international levels, and the Class of 2015 could have a similar sentiment.

For the first 44 years of the Hall of Fame, the list of enshrined members was almost exclusively North American-trained players. Vladisav Tretiak went into the Hall in 1989, and Borje Salming followed in 1996 to help start the flow of European-trained players into the sport's museum of excellence.

The Class of 2014, with Rob Blake, Peter Forsberg, Dominik Hasek and Mike Modano, was the first to have players from four different countries, and the first to have three players not from Canada. The Class of 2015 is almost certain to have two more European-trained players, and three is a possibility.

Four candidates, including three NHL players, have a great chance to be elected in their first time on the ballot. There is certain to be advocating for several other players who have yet to earn their place in the Hall of Fame. Here is a look at the top candidates for the Class of 2015:

TORONTO -- Mario Lemieux does not spend a lot of time speaking to the media, opting to stay in the background as owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins despite being one of the most influential figures for hockey in Pittsburgh and one of the greatest players to ever put on skates.

He is known to confide in a relatively small group of people, so breaking a story involving Lemieux is a little different than with most professional athletes.

Kevin Allen will receive the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for excellence in hockey journalism Monday, and his plaque is now in the Great Hall at the Hockey Hall of Fame because he has been an important voice for hockey in the United States during his nearly three decades at USA Today. Allen's resume is filled with highlights and awards and attendance at the most important hockey games of the past 25 years.

CHICAGO -- Pat Foley could've found a substitute to stand in Sunday in the television broadcast booth at United Center.

Somebody else could've done the play-by-play during the Chicago Blackhawks game against the Dallas Stars so Foley could rest up for Monday, when he'll be in Toronto to receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award at the Hockey Hall of Fame NHL Media Awards Luncheon.

That's just not Foley's style. Asked if he considered taking the day off, Foley recoiled a bit.

"No, I've got a game to do," said Foley, who's in his 32nd season of broadcasting Blackhawks games. "There was no chance I was going to miss this [game]. Now, [Monday] I think I've got about a 4:45 wake-up. I'm supposed to give a speech at noon or something. I'm going to be a dishrag, so we'll see how that goes, but there was no chance I was going to miss this game."
