The San Jose Sharks have had a curious offseason.

There has been talk of a rebuild coming from general manager Doug Wilson despite the fact the Sharks needed one more victory to eliminate the Los Angeles Kings from the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season before the Kings could even sniff the Stanley Cup they eventually won.

OK, so the Sharks didn't get it, losing four straight to the Kings in the Western Conference First Round after winning three in a row, but they were close and they were playing without their best defenseman, Marc-Edouard Vlasic. It still prompted Wilson to call them "a tomorrow team."

The latest edition features Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz:

To say Barry Trotz is re-energized might be the understatement of the offseason.

After 15 seasons with the Nashville Predators, Trotz is in the process of closing his home in Tennessee so he can fill his new home in Arlington, Va. He lived the coach's dream, being in one city long enough that some of his kids could go from first grade through college without moving. Now he gets to start over, and that has provided him with energy and impatience this offseason.

"You're coming to a new organization and they don't know how you do things, so you have to go through the teaching mode," Trotz told NHL.com. "You want to have your stamp. You're meeting new people. There's new energy. You're forging new relationships. To me those things really motivate me to get everything in place and get going."

Trotz has been working toward that goal this summer by poring over film and stats to learn as much as he can about the players he has in Washington. He has met personally with many of them, including captain Alex Ovechkin.

Trotz's meeting with Ovechkin last month is where the following Q&A begins. It extends into questions that led to his thoughts on Washington's seemingly endless search for a second-line center and the futures of two budding stars on his new roster.

In the days following a quick exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock talked about the evolution of his team, understanding the components necessary to succeed in the Western Conference and learning from the lessons provided in losing. Hitchcock said multiple times that the six-game series loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference First Round provided the Blues a complete evaluation of where they stand and what they still needed to do to become a Stanley Cup contender.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has tried to use that free-of-charge and oh-so-painful evaluation as his blueprint for the summer.

The Blackhawks showed the Blues that they needed to be better down the middle, so Armstrong signed Paul Stastny, the best center available on the free-agent market, to a four-year, $28 million contract. He also signed Finnish center Jori Lehtera, who tied for third in scoring with 12 points in 10 games at the 2014 IIHF World Championship, to a two-year, $5.5 million contract.

The latest edition features Hall of Fame defenseman Brian Leetch, who became a Stanley Cup champion with the New York Rangers in 1994 and now is a director in the NHL Department of Player Safety:

Brian Leetch and his New York Rangers teammates became icons in the Big Apple 20 years ago.

Leetch and the Rangers made everyone stop chanting "19-40" by winning their first Stanley Cup championship in 54 years. They paraded down the Canyon of Heroes. They lived the life of a star on Broadway, in the biggest city in the world.

They were legendary. In many ways they still are.

The current version of the Rangers is five wins away from getting the same treatment. They are one win away from reaching the Cup Final for the first time since that magical New York spring in 1994.

The Rangers have a 3-1 series lead on the Montreal Canadiens in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference Final heading into Game 5 at Bell Centre on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS).

Leetch, watching from afar while living in Boston and doing his work as a member of the NHL Department of Player Safety team, spoke about the Rangers' past and present during a phone conversation with NHL.com on Monday.

The latest edition features Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving:

Before spending the previous seven seasons as the assistant general manager of the Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving lived a minor-league life with major-league aspirations.

Treliving, who was hired by the Flames last week, played in the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League and the ECHL.

Once he was done playing in 1996, Treliving, 26 years old at the time, founded the Western Professional Hockey League, which later merged with the Central Hockey League. Treliving was the president of the CHL for seven seasons.

Even during his time working with Coyotes GM Don Maloney, Treliving was in charge of Phoenix's AHL affiliate, currently the Portland Pirates and formerly the San Antonio Rampage.

The latest edition features Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau:

Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau knows which goalie he'll name as the starter for Game 1 of the Western Conference Second Round series, but when asked Monday afternoon in a phone interview, he was not ready to reveal his choice between Frederik Andersen and Jonas Hiller.

"We've talked as a coaching and management staff about who is starting," Boudreau told NHL.com. "I will reveal to them, probably [Tuesday], who is going to be starting."

Andersen started all six games in the first round against the Dallas Stars, but Boudreau turned to Hiller to close out Game 6 on Sunday after Andersen gave up four goals on 12 shots through 30:33.

Hiller took over and was perfect against 12 shots, giving the Ducks a chance to mount a comeback for a 5-4 overtime victory.

CHICAGO -- T.J. Oshie is chasing one of his dreams while living the other.

When Oshie arrives at the rink he becomes one of the St. Louis Blues' most important players as a first-line right wing that is as big a part of the offense as anyone. When Oshie gets home, he becomes someone completely different, a father to Lyla Grace, born on March 17.

However, it hasn't been easy in either area lately.
