Blackhawks' Crawford focused solely on the present

Shawn Roarke - Director, Editorial

CHICAGO -- Goaltender Corey Crawford has learned the fine art of forgetting about the past. As a result, his present and future have been infinitely more enjoyable.

"I approach every next game [like] that's always the most important," Crawford said minutes after playing a starring role in the Chicago Blackhawks' Western Conference Final opening-game victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. "Game 2 is now the most important. I'm going to rest up now and prepare for that."

With more than 72 hours between the end of Game 1 and the start of Game 2 here at United Center on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN, RDS), Crawford will have a lot of time to think about the recent run he has put together.

Blackhawks create traffic in front of Quick

Shawn Roarke - Director, Editorial

CHICAGO -- The Anaheim Ducks scored 15 goals against Jonathan Quick in the seven-game Western Conference Second Round series that ended Friday.

In the Western Conference Final last year, the Chicago Blackhawks scored 16 goals against Quick and the Kings, in five games, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final.

Clearly, the Blackhawks believe they know a thing or two about beating one of the game's best and brightest goaltenders.

The Blackhawks put three pucks past Quick in a 3-1 victory at United Center on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final. Game 2 is Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN, RDS).

Blackhawks shake off no-goal call on way to win

Shawn Roarke - Director, Editorial

CHICAGO -- Since the start of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks have found themselves in a few tough spots in 71 games of make-or-break hockey.

They have conquered the majority of the obstacles placed in their path, winning the Stanley Cup in 2010 and 2013. But other challenges have gotten the better of them, leaving them full of regrets and disappointment.

Whether success or failure was found, each of those experiences has built the character of the team that took the ice Sunday afternoon to play the Los Angeles Kings in the first game of the Western Conference Final.

So it should have come as little surprise when the Blackhawks were able to shake off a controversial call and the change in momentum it produced in favor of the Kings in the second period of the game, which Chicago eventually won 3-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Goaltending plays an integral part in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the competition intense and so even, the men protecting each goal often are the difference in a series. NHL.com broke down the compelling Western Conference Final matchup between 2012 Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings and defending Cup champion Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Much like many goaltending coaches will do before a playoff series, NHL.com correspondent Kevin Woodley, the managing editor of InGoal Magazine, used the 360 Save Review System software from Double Blue Sports Analytics to chart every goal scored against each goalie in this matchup this season, and he came to some interesting conclusions about their strengths and weaknesses.

Shawn P. Roarke and Curtis Zupke - NHL.com

The Chicago Blackhawks eliminated the Los Angeles Kings in five games in the 2013 Western Conference Final on their way to the Stanley Cup. To have a chance to become the first repeat champion in 16 years, Chicago will have to beat L.A. again.

The Blackhawks and Kings, who each finished third in their division, begin the best-of-7 rematch Sunday at United Center (3 p.m. ET; NBC, TSN, RDS).

The Blackhawks have been off since eliminating the Minnesota Wild by winning Game 6 of their Western Conference Second Round series in overtime. The Kings had a quick turnaround; Los Angeles flew to Chicago after ousting the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 of their second-round series Friday.
