Five Blackhawks excited, honored to be all-stars

Sunday, 01.04.2015 / 4:11 PM / 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend

Brian Hedger - NHL.com Correspondent

CHICAGO -- Those outside the Chicago Blackhawks' locker room might be rolling their eyes about the outcome of the 2015 NHL All-Star Fan Vote presented by SiriusXM, but those on the inside are all smiles.

The Blackhawks, who took five of the first six spots for the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Columbus, are thrilled with the outcome. After top vote-getter Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres, the next five spots were all Chicago players.

"When the balloting started there, we seemed to come out of the gate very strong; picked up some momentum along the way," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "Good for the guys. Organizationally, it should be proud of the representation we’re going to have at the All-Star Game. It’s one of those days [when] it’s fun for the game [and] fun for the League."

Doubling back: Projecting 2015 All-Star participants

Monday, 12.22.2014 / 9:45 AM / 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend

Corey Masisak - NHL.com Staff Writer

The 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Columbus is a little more than a month away, so it is time for another round of projections for who might end up in the midseason showcase.

Here is our first projection from November. This time, it will be Arpon Basu, Corey Masisak and Dan Rosen of NHL.com making their picks.

The exercise was pretty simple. All three chose the 42 players (12 forwards, six defensemen and three goalies in each conference) they felt most deserved to be named to the All-Star Game at Nationwide Arena on Jan. 25.

Players who were named on the most lists were part of the team, and because each player was voted in order of priority, a simple tiebreaker was used to determine the final spots if too many players were named to the same number of ballots. The individual ballots are displayed at the bottom of the story.

Votes from Latvia have Sabres' Girgensons in front

Tuesday, 12.02.2014 / 5:22 PM / 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend

Joe Yerdon - NHL.com Correspondent

BUFFALO -- If you've noticed Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons at the top of the voting for the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game, it's no mistake.

The Sabres forward is the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game in Columbus. He's tied for the Sabres lead in goals with Tyler Ennis (7) and is second in points (13). But that's probably not why he's piled up so many votes (399,356 as of Tuesday). A lot of the support is coming from his home country.

"He's a very popular man over in Latvia," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said Monday. "I think from the Sochi Olympics he got his name out there a little bit more. Playing the way he's playing here in Buffalo the first couple years, he's getting his name out, so hopefully he's going to be a household name here in North America the way he is in Latvia. And good for him, he deserves everything he's getting."
