CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy was in familiar territory Wednesday, moving back and forth in a crease at the Avalanche practice facility while wearing a goalie mask, pads and skates.

Roy, who won the Stanley Cup four times, and 551 regular-season games in 18 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and Avalanche, took turns with goalie Calvin Pickard taking shots from defensemanBrad Stuart and forward Chris Wagner.

There has been speculation Roy, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006, may be back in net when the Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings alumni face off at Coors Field in Denver on Feb. 26 as part of the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. Colorado and Detroit will play The Stadium Series game Feb. 27 at Coors Field.

Alumni game to rekindle rivalry for Sakic, Draper

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog joked that he was a little nervous while sitting between Joe Sakic and Kris Draper on Monday during a news conference at Coors Field.

Sakic and Draper now hold executive positions with the Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings, respectively, but they were part of the teams' often bitter rivalry between 1996 and 2002.

"I felt I was right in the shooting lane between them," Landeskog said with a laugh.

The harsh feelings that once existed have long subsided, but the competitive juices are sure to flow again when the Avalanche and Red Wings alumni play at Coors Field on Feb. 26 as part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.

Avalanche excited for outdoor game vs. Red Wings

DENVER -- Persistence paid off for Colorado Avalanche president Josh Kroenke, who for several years had been lobbying for a Coors Light NHL Stadium Series Game.

It will happen on Sunday, Feb. 27 at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, when the Avalanche and longtime rival Detroit Red Wings meet in the first NHL outdoor game to be played in the state.

The League made the official announcement in January, and on Monday NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman held a news conference with officials from the Rockies, Avalanche and Red Wings on a sun-splashed morning under blue skies with a hockey rink configuration stretched across portions of the dirt infield and outfield grass.

In addition, alumni from the Avalanche and Red Wings will play at Coors Field on Friday, Feb. 25. The teams faced each other five times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs from 1996-2002 and combined to win the Stanley Cup five times during that span.
