2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series NY: Rangers/Devils/Islanders

Henrique thrilled to play at Yankee Stadium

Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique remembers sitting in the stands at Yankee Stadium with then-teammates Krys Barch and Tom Kostopoulos in mid-April. They were there to catch a ballgame, but the conversation turned to a major what-if.

"We were saying how cool it would be to play a game in there one day," Henrique told NHL.com. "Sure enough, the next day they announced it."

Well, not officially, because the NHL didn't release the details about the Devils' participation in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series until about a month later, but the news leaked into the media while Henrique and his ex-teammates were inside the ballpark in the Bronx.

As the details of the event came to light -- Jan. 26, 2014 against the New York Rangers at 12:30 p.m. ET (NBC, CBC) -- Henrique started to grow more and more intrigued.

"We weren't sure if they were serious or not," Henrique said. "Once we found out it was a sure thing we just said, 'It's going to be awesome.'"

Rangers happy to bring outdoor games to New York

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

For the New York Rangers, once was nice, but twice is going to be extra special.

The Rangers will take part in the Coors Light Stadium Series games at Yankee Stadium, against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, and against the New York Islanders on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014.

It will mark the second and third time in three seasons the Rangers have been part of a regular-season outdoor game. They played the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

This season, though, they're a bit closer to home, which makes it that much more special.

Devils players ready for their outdoor opportunity

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

Since the Winter Classic became an annual NHL event in 2008, it's become the highlight of the regular-season schedule.

This season, the overwhelming popularity of playing outside has produced the Coors Light Stadium Series, which will hit Yankee Stadium for a pair of games, with the first set for Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, between the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers.

The puck won't drop for that event for another six weeks, but for a few members of the Devils, the time can't go fast enough.

Quote of the Day

I don't know how he does it. I don't know how he gets his body parallel with the player and pulls it through his legs like that. I know he's tried it a couple times in practice and it's never worked, so how he does it in a game, it's incredible.
