VICTORIA, British Columbia -- Playing street hockey while growing up in Victoria, forward Adam Cracknell imagined scoring a lot of game-winning goals for the Vancouver Canucks one day.

On Monday, his dream came to fruition.

Wearing a Canucks jersey for the first time and playing in front of family and friends in his hometown as part of Kraft Hockeyville, Cracknell scored the only goal 1:39 into 3-on-3 overtime to lead the Canucks to a 1-0 preseason victory against the San Jose Sharks at Q Centre.

With his picture hanging from a minor hockey wall of fame in the concourse at the other end of the arena and an extra Canucks skater on the ice for a delayed penalty, Cracknell walked into the high slot and beat Sharks goalie Aaron Dell cleanly over the blocker.

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- Growing up playing minor hockey in Victoria, Adam Cracknell imagined himself playing for the Vancouver Canucks, but not even his wildest dreams included the chance to do it for the first time in front of family and friends in his hometown.

Thanks to nearby North Saanich winning Kraft Hockeyville in Canada for 2015, Cracknell will get the chance to do that when he puts on his Canucks game jersey for the first time for a preseason game against the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

Cracknell, 30, signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks this summer after splitting last season between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the American Hockey League.

NORTH SAANICH, British Columbia -- Hockey fans on Vancouver Island aren't the only ones excited about having the Vancouver Canucks play the San Jose Sharks on Monday as the main event of Kraft Hockeyville.

Veteran NHL linesman Lonnie Cameron is excited to work in his hometown again.

"When I step out on the ice, the hairs on the back of my head will be going off," Cameron said. "I grew up 12 blocks from the rink. I've been looking forward to this date on the calendar."

Going into his 20th year in the NHL and with more than 1,100 games under his belt, it takes a lot for Cameron to get excited about an assignment. But the chance to work in front of family and friends in an arena overlooked by the one he grew up playing in was enough to do it.

"That's where I started pee wee pup hockey, seven-, eight- years old," said Cameron, who grew up playing with former NHL players such as Joe Reekie and Dan Woodley. "My picture is on the wall."

NORTH SAANICH, British Columbia -- For Bruce Cowick, the chance to get up close and personal with the Stanley Cup at the Kraft Hockeyville celebrations on Sunday was nothing new.

Cowick had already hoisted the Cup as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers team that won it in 1974. But what Cowick never got to do was share the Stanley Cup with his daughter, Sherri, who wasn't born when he won it, so they drove 40 minutes to North Saanich to see it.

Seeing Sherri fighting back tears when she found his name on the Cup, the trip was worth it.

"I didn't expect to get that emotional," Sherri told NHL.com, still wiping tears from her cheeks. "Growing up, he was just my dad who played hockey and when you are a kid it doesn't mean as much; you maybe don't understand the magnitude until you are an adult. But becoming a parent yourself, it just resonates on a totally different level."

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- The NHL is bringing the Stanley Cup to the Panorama Recreation Center on Sunday to help celebrate North Saanich winning Kraft Hockeyville in Canada 2015.

Without knowing it, the NHL has already been to Larry Orr's garage around the corner, a place where the spirit of hockey and community thrives every day in a never-locked garage at the top of a driveway that starts with a skate perched on small sign that reads, "skate sharpening."

Ex-NHL stars visit hospital, share hockey memories

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- The NHL has come to North Saanich, British Columbia, for Kraft Hockeyville this weekend. But not everyone from this small community is able to make it out to see the Stanley Cup on Sunday or the Vancouver Canucks play the San Jose Sharks in a preseason game on Monday.

So the NHL brought the game to some of them instead.

Former players Doug Bodger and Jyrki Lumme spent Saturday afternoon visiting with residents in the extended care units at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. As Bodger and Lumme weaved their way through the packed room autographing hockey cards, the stories began to flow in both directions, with hockey the common theme tying generations and communities together.

Canadian Hockeyville winner nurtured Benn brothers

VANCOUVER -- Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn led the NHL in scoring last season, but he didn't grow up dreaming about winning the Art Ross Trophy.

As kids, Jamie and his older brother, Stars defenseman Jordie Benn, didn't even dream of playing in the NHL.

For the Benn brothers, the early goal was always to play for the Peninsula Panthers, a tier-3 Junior B team that played in the 400-seat Panorama Recreation Centre Hockey Arena in their hometown of North Saanich, British Columbia, on the southeast tip of Vancouver Island.

North Saanich, B.C. named Kraft Hockeyville 2015

NHL Public Relations

TORONTO – Last night, millions of votes and countless rallying cries culminated in North Saanich, B.C. being named Kraft Hockeyville 2015 in Canada. During a live spot on Hockey Night in Canada™, NHL® Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that North Saanich will receive the opportunity to host an NHL® Pre-Season Game between Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks, and $100,000 to build a dedicated home-team locker room in their arena. In its ninth season, Kraft Hockeyville remains committed to investing in community arenas to help keep the game alive from coast-to-coast.

The Panorama Recreation Centre Hockey Arena plays an essential role in bringing together fans, friends, and family in North Saanich. The centre is home to the Saanich Peninsula's only hockey facility, however, it does not have a dedicated home-team locker room where players can store their equipment and join together before and after games. In its quest for the Kraft Hockeyville title, the community organized several events, including a voting party at the rink with free skating, and received an outpouring of support from many local organizations.
