ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. -- When news spread that the Ottawa Senators were going to be participating in the 2011 Kraft Hockeyville event in Newfoundland, there's little doubt nobody was happier than Sens forward Colin Greening.
Greening, who burst onto the scene in Ottawa last season with 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in 24 games, grew up five minutes from the Mile One Centre, where the Sens will face the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. Never could he possibly have fathomed that he'd ever get to play an NHL game in front of family and friends in his hometown, but thanks to Conception Bay South's triumph in the Kraft Hockeyville competition, Greening is about to have an unforgettable experience.

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, Newfoundland -- The best years of Laurie Boschman's playing career were spent with the Winnipeg Jets, so when the team left town 15 years ago for Phoenix, he was obviously very disappointed.
"I was very sad to see that happen," Boschman told NHL.com Sunday morning. "I have lots of friends and family in the area. I know how they felt about it. Even if you're not a hockey fan, when you lose a team of that caliber in the community, it really sort of lays a blow on your psyche."
Things are better in Winnipeg these days. The Jets are returning to the NHL this season and will play a preseason game against the Ottawa Senators Monday night in St. John's to highlight the 2011 Kraft Hockeyville festivities. Boschman is spending the weekend in Newfoundland, helping youth players along during on-ice clinics.
"I was in Winnipeg running a hockey camp this summer and it feels like they're back in the big leagues," Boschman said. "There's a lot of good things happening in Winnipeg right now and the economy has really picked up there. It looks like they've got a much more solid base that can support this kind of thing.

Langdon, who grew up in Deer Lake, Newfoundland, helped the Kraft Hockeyville team skate away with an 8-7 victory against the Conception Bay South club in a celebrities game as part of the 2011 Kraft Hockeyville festivities. Langdon told NHL.com that Deer Lake is roughly a 6 1/2-hour drive from Conception Bay South.
But it was well worth the trip.

Lalime, 37, was the Buffalo Sabres' goaltender when the club faced the Montreal Canadiens in the 2008 Kraft Hockeyville game in Roberval, Quebec. This year, he is in Newfoundland as part of the Ottawa Senators' alumni group, just two months removed from announcing his retirement.
"Just the ambience was unbelievable," Lalime said, recalling his experience in the small Quebec town three years ago. "I remember when we were there, it was just nonstop. They were screaming. You could feel the excitement from the people from the city. Even when we came in last night, and then you look at this today … there's not too many places where you open the door and you see the ocean right next door. This is something I had never seen before. It's a lot of fun."
Lalime appeared in just seven games last season for the Sabres and ultimately decided to give up playing the sport he loves. He will remain in the game, however, as an analyst for RDS.

Just when you thought legendary play-by-play announcer Bob Cole had done it all in his line of work, he'll soon get to do something he's never had the opportunity of doing -- he'll get to call an NHL game in his hometown.

Conception Bay South, home to roughly 20,000 people in the province of Newfoundland, is set to host the 2011 Kraft Hockeyville event. The activities get under way this Saturday, when NHL alumni run clinics at Robert French Memorial Stadium.
By winning a competition that received a record 297 entries (Conception Bay South received more than 995,000 votes to claim to grand prize), CBS received a check for $100,000 from Kraft that will go toward upgrading its local rink. But that's just the beginning.
The Stanley Cup Event, NHL Alumni autograph signing sessions, a community barbeque (courtesy of Bull's-Eye Barbecue Sauce), a fireworks show and a special guest appearance by CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada's" Ron MacLean, Don Cherry and Cassie Campbell-Pascall highlight this weekend's festivities in Conception Bay South, all of which are free to attend.

Representatives from Kraft Canada and the Conception Bay South Kraft Hockeyville local organizing committee joined Conception Bay South Deputy Mayor John Hicks to install new arena safety glass at the Robert French Memorial Stadium in the small Newfoundland town on Thursday morning.
Thanks to Conception Bay South's victory in the Kraft Hockeyville 2011 competition, the glass installation is one of many arena upgrades the community will be able to fund due to the $100,000 grand prize. The upgrades will help Robert French Memorial Stadium continue to serve as a vital cog in the community.

Only a few months after watching the town of Dundas, Ont., welcome the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, the entire country of Canada is gearing up for Kraft Hockeyville 2011.
The five finalists were announced on CBC's "Hockey Night In Canada" on Saturday, as a handful of towns from across the hockey-crazed nation will now vie for the crown.
