The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Raphael Diaz to a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.

Diaz had been with the Flames on a tryout basis. He played 63 games last season between the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers and had two goals and 13 assists.

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen used the phrase "move forward" six times in 10 minutes Monday at a press conference to announce the signing of center Ryan Johansen to a three-year, $12 million contract after protracted negotiations caused the center to miss the Sept. 18 start of training camp.

It was Kekalainen's way of trying to dampen the embers of the sometimes fiery talks between the Blue Jackets and Johansen's agent, Kurt Overhardt.

"I talked to [Johansen] briefly already and basically told him, 'Get your butt over here and let's get to work,'" Kekalainen said. "I wish this all could have been avoided but it was something necessary for us to go through to get the deal done. Now it's done and let's move forward."

Forward Daniel Carcillo has agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, the team said Saturday. No other terms were disclosed, but Sportsnet reports it's a one-way contract worth $550,000.

Carcillo, 29, joined the Blackhawks on Friday, one day after being released by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was attending training camp with the Penguins on a professional tryout.

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed defenseman Brenden Dillon to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dillon, 23, recorded career-highs in almost every statistical category during the 2013-14 campaign. He finished the season with 17 points (6-11=17), including two shorthanded goals, and a plus/minus rating of +9 in 80 regular-season contests with the Stars. Dillon ranked fourth among all NHL defensemen and led all Stars skaters with a +20 rating at home this season. He also led the club with 168 hits and ranked second with 149 blocked shots.

Restricted free agent forward Cody Eakin signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars, the team said Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN Insider Bob McKenzie reported the contract is worth $3.8 million, for a $1.9 million salary-cap charge

Eakin, 23, had 16 goals and 19 assists in 81 regular-season games last season, and two goals and three assists in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has 27 goals and 67 points in 159 regular-season games with the Stars and Washington Capitals, who traded him to Dallas on June 22, 2012.

"Cody is a two-way, young forward who competes hard and has the ability to make plays offensively," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "He has just scratched the surface in terms of his development at this level and we are confident that over these next two years we'll see him mature into an even more dependable and productive player."

BOSTON -- In the end, the Boston Bruins were able to keep the band together.

General manager Peter Chiarelli's goal during his negotiations with defenseman Torey Krug and forward Reilly Smith was to get the restricted free agents new contracts without being forced into a corresponding move that could weaken his team's talent or depth.

By getting Krug and Smith each to agree to a one-year, $1.4 million contract Monday, Chiarelli basically got that done. According to CapGeek.com the Bruins are about $3.6 million over the salary-cap ceiling based on their current roster, but they'll get relief of slightly more than $4 million when Marc Savard is placed on the long-term injured list. While they'll be under the $69 million salary cap by about $430,000, Chiarelli could look to make a move to get more cap room. That move won't have to be as significant, however, as if Smith and Krug pushed for more money in their new contracts.

Restricted free agent Jaden Schwartz has signed a two-year contract with the St. Louis Blues, the team announced Saturday.

No terms of the agreement were disclosed, but TSN's Bob McKenzie reports the contract will pay Schwartz $2 million this season and $2.7 million in 2015-16, for an average annual value of $2.35 million.

"We are excited to have Jaden in the fold for the next two seasons," general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "He is an exciting young talent that will play a key role in the success of our club in the near future."

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free-agent defenseman Ryan Ellis to a five-year, $12.5 million contract.

Ellis, 23 (1/3/91), ranked second on the Predators in games played (80) and plus/minus rating (+9), while ranking third among club blueliners in points (6g-21a-27pts) during the 2013-14 season. In 144 career NHL contests since 2011-12, the 5-10, 179-pound native of Freelton, Ontario, has recorded 44 points (11g-33a).

Restricted free agent goaltender Darcy Kuemper has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Minnesota Wild, the team said Thursday.

No other terms were disclosed, but TSN's Bob McKenzie reported it's a one-way contract with an average annual value of $1.25 million.

"I'm super excited to continue this journey with the Wild and can't wait to see and get back on the ice with my teammates," Kuemper told Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Kuemper said he will arrive at Wild training camp Friday, the newspaper reported.

Restricted free-agent defenseman Eric Gelinas has signed a new contract, the team announced Monday. Details of the contract were not released, but NorthJersey.com reported Gelinas signed for one year at $900,000.

"Just happy to have everybody here, everybody ready," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "It's the first step towards getting our team together. We've got all our players here and now training camp begins."

Gelinas, 23, had seven goals and 29 points in 60 games last season while averaging 16:55 of ice time per game. He was fourth among all rookie defenders in goals and tied for third in points, despite playing fewer games than anyone on the list above him.
