The 2015 NHL Draft will be a great opportunity for teams to shore up positions of need with an injection of energetic, young talent.

As the first round of the draft draws near, there's no better time to take a glimpse at the possible draft needs of all 30 NHL teams.

While there still may be trades and surprises in the works leading up to the draft, which will be held June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., the priorities likely will remain the same. Here's a breakdown of what Pacific Division teams could be looking to do when they arrive in Florida.

Crosby remains no-doubt No. 1 pick in 2005 re-draft

NHL.com will take a look back at the NHL drafts from five, 10 and 15 years ago this week, leading up to the 2015 NHL Draft at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. How would a redo of those drafts look today?

There wasn't much debate regarding who the first pick of 2005 NHL Draft would be, and 10 years later there isn't much more Sidney Crosby could have done for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins were the lucky team that won a special lottery drawing for the right to pick first, and the reward has been a player who has ranged from outstanding to dominant during the past decade.

Crosby has won the Hart Trophy twice, the Art Ross Trophy twice and two Olympic gold medals. He captained the Penguins to the 2009 Stanley Cup one season after helping them reach the Stanley Cup Final.

A number of the players picked after Crosby have done pretty well also. But with 10 years of hindsight, how would that draft go if the same players were made available today?

Analytics, stats making way into draft process

This season the NHL took a deep dive into the world of advanced analytics, taking the "fancy stats" debate more into the mainstream.

That trend soon could reach the amateur hockey level.

More teams are using advanced analytics in their quest for any extra information they can find when judging prospects.

Players picked at the 2015 NHL Draft, which will be held June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., certainly will be viewed through that spectrum.

The first round of the draft is Friday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports); rounds 2-7 are Saturday (10 a.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports).

"I think the trickle down has started to seep into the majority of organizations," Florida Panthers director of scouting Scott Luce said. "I think all organizations are trying to fine-tune what and how they can take the data and how they can use it and better utilize it for decision-making when it comes to making a draft pick at the draft."

Wild have methodical plan for first round of 2015 draft

Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher and assistant general manager Brent Flahr share the same opinion when it comes to the 2015 NHL Draft.

The 2015 draft will be held June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. The first round is June 26 (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports); rounds 2-7 will be June 27 (10 a.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports).

"This is a deep draft; we've known that for a while," Flahr said Monday in a video on the Wild's website. "There's a number of different positions. If you talk to a lot of teams the top 11 or 12 players in the draft will be probably similar on each teams' list, they're probably in a little different order. … It's just a matter of what teams do in front of us and we'll take the best player we can."

The Wild take a methodical approach to the first round, according to Fletcher.

Stars believe best plan is to pick best player available

Steve Hunt - NHL.com Correspondent

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said Monday that he will use the same simple approach to the 2015 NHL Draft that he's used in the past: Select the best player available.

The 2015 draft will be June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. The first round will be June 26 (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports); rounds 2-7 are June 27 (10 a.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports).

"Really with every pick you're taking the best player," Nill said Monday. "My philosophy's always been take the best player. It's all about assets. The more assets you have, the better assets you have, the more currency you have to make moves down the road."

Erie's Strome used time in spotlight to emerge as star

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

Erie Otters forward Dylan Strome experienced something similar to what NHL legends Mark Messier and Jaromir Jagr went through early in their careers.

Messier was the co-pilot to Wayne Gretzky with the Edmonton Oilers during their championship run in the 1980s; Jagr was a linemate to Mario Lemieux on the Pittsburgh Penguins' Stanley Cup teams in the 1990s.

Strome was the second-line center to Connor McDavid in Erie this season. But like Messier and Jagr, Strome was able to steal some of the spotlight and emerge as a star.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound center led the Ontario Hockey League with 129 points and was third with 45 goals. He clinched the scoring title on the final day of the regular season with four goals and two assists against the Niagara IceDogs.

Seventh-round selection Lundqvist tops 2000 re-draft

NHL.com will take a look back at the NHL drafts from five, 10 and 15 years ago this week, leading up to the 2015 NHL Draft at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. How would a redo of those drafts look today?

It's not often a seventh-round draft pick makes it to the NHL, let alone becomes a star.

But 15 years after he was the 205th player selected at the 2000 NHL Draft, there's no question New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is not your average seventh-round selection.

Since taking the starting job with the Rangers during the 2005-06 season, Lundqvist has consistently been among the best at his position in the League. His 339 wins and 55 shutouts since 2005 lead all goalies, according to Hockey-Reference.com.

Lundqvist wasn't the only player from the 2000 draft to develop into a star. So with 15 years of hindsight, how would that draft go if the same players were made available today?

Sabres general manager Murray set for defining draft

Sunday, 06.21.2015 / 3:00 AM / 2015 NHL Draft

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com Staff Writer

Buffalo Sabres director of amateur scouting Greg Royce is looking forward to working alongside general manager Tim Murray again at the 2015 NHL Draft on June 26-27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.

The timing couldn't be any better as many associated with the organization feel the two-day draft might be Murray's defining moment as the leader of the organization.

"I've known Tim through scouting and seeing him on the road, socializing with him; we go back quite a few years," Royce said. "He brought me in when he was assistant GM with the Ottawa Senators and he called me after getting the job in Buffalo. I didn't hesitate because a GM with his scouting background makes it easy to go to work."
