NASHVILLE -- The smile that flashed across John Scott's face again and again throughout the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game was the perfect symbol of his adventure at Bridgestone Arena on Sunday.

"I just see him as this little kid," Scott's wife, Danielle, told NHL.com afterward.

Danielle, standing outside the home dressing room at the arena, had just finished sharing a tender moment with her husband before he was whisked away to handle the duties that accompanied the surprising most valuable player award he earned after his Pacific Division team won the championship with a 1-0 victory against the Atlantic Division in the final.

Scott scored twice in the first game, a 9-6 victory against the Central Division. He also had the game's only hit, flattening Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.

All-Star weekend 'great experience' for Predators' Josi

Sunday, 01.31.2016 / 10:33 PM / 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend

Roman Josi - Special to NHL.com

Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi was one of four hometown players to appear in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition and the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game. He was joined by defenseman Shea Weber, forward James Neal and goalie Pekka Rinne. Josi is doing a blog for NHL.com this weekend to detail his experiences.

This is the final installment, discussing the 9-6 loss his Central Division team absorbed in the semifinals and his experiences throughout an unforgettable weekend.

The All-Star Game was a lot of fun. Everything about it was amazing; coming to the rink, the entrance during the introductions and then playing the game and being out there with all those great players and playing with them was a great experience for me.

Before the game even started, our coach Lindy Ruff came up to us before the game and said all of the Predators were going to start the game and that was really cool. To get me, Shea Weber, James Neal and Pekka Rinne all out there for the first shift and to hear the reaction from the crowd, that was a cool experience.

NASHVILLE-- Denna Laing, in a message shown on the video screen during the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, said she has been "absolutely blown away by the support I've gotten from the hockey community."

Laing, a member of the Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League, sustained a spinal injury at the Women's Classic on Dec. 31.

"People writing letters that I'm their role model and I inspire them, but they truly are the ones that inspire me," Laing said.

NASHVILLE -- The Eastern Conference All-Stars had plenty of fun at the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday, but they'll be battling against each other in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday (5 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban put on a Jaromir Jagr disguise to win the Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge. New York Islanders captain John Tavares won the DraftKings NHL Accuracy Shooting event and Detroit Red Wings rookie Dylan Larkin broke Mike Gartner's 20-year record in the Bridgestone NHL Fastest Skater competition.

With their 29-12 win in the skills competition, the Eastern all-stars earned the choice and opted to play the first 3-on-3 semifinal Sunday, a game that will pit the Atlantic Division stars against the Metropolitan Division. The second game will see the Pacific Division play against the Central Division. The two winners will meet in the final.

NHL.com is behind the scenes at Skills Competition

NASHVILLE -- NHL benches are typically sacred areas, reserved for teams; for coaches, players and trainers. Occasionally they'll let a broadcaster on the bench for an interview, but it's normally a place where strategy is discussed, trash talk is expected and conversations are kept private.

None of that was true Saturday at Bridgestone Arena during the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition. The benches were littered with people, from players' kids to reporters from the major networks, to NHL and NHLPA representatives.

It was unique, an experience, and NHL.com got to be a part of it.

Here is a chronological look at some of the best behind the scenes moments of the Skills Competition as seen and heard from the benches:

NASHVILLE -- The 2016 Honda All-Star Skills Competition was a perfect night for John Scott.

The unlikely NHL All-Star got a rousing ovation from the Bridgestone Arena crowd on Saturday, and even pulled off a spin-o-rama in the Discover Shootout.

"It was really an honor," Scott said of his reception from the sellout crowd. "I didn't expect that. I didn't know what to expect. I was really nervous, I was shaking a little bit and I was a little overwhelmed. It was really neat."

Predators' All-Stars enjoy hometown crowd

Robby Stanley - NHL.com Correspondent

NASHVILLE -- Nashville Predators defensemen Shea Weber and Roman Josi, goalie Pekka Rinne and forward James Neal got to experience the 2016 Honda NHL Skills Competition in front of a raucous home crowd at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday.

It erupted with cheers as the Predators were announced in introductions before the start of the competition, and the fans kept that energy going throughout the night.

"It was awesome," Josi said. "It was really loud. It was awesome. I thought the crowd was great. Through the whole skills, they were loud. It was pretty cool when they announced our names."

Holtby, East fall to West in Skills Challenge Relay

Saturday, 01.30.2016 / 10:57 PM / 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend

Brian Compton - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

NASHVILLE -- Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby grew up watching a generation of NHL goaltenders who were phenomenal stick-handlers.

The list includes: Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy and Marty Turco.

"Those guys, that was part of the game then," Holtby said after helping the Eastern Conference to a 29-12 win against the Western Conference in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Stars Challenge at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday. "I grew up being a forward and a goalie, so that kind of helped. But there's still some pretty good guys in the NHL. When we play against [Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop], that's one thing we really have to key in on, because he's so good at it. It helps if you do it right."

Josi: Red Carpet, skills competition 'extremely special'

Saturday, 01.30.2016 / 10:57 PM / 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend

Roman Josi - Special to NHL.com

Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi is one of four hometown players who appeared in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday and will play in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday (5 p.m. ET; NBCSN, Rogers, TVAS). He is joined by defenseman Shea Weber, forward James Neal and goalie Pekka Rinne. Josi is doing a blog for NHL.com this weekend to detail his experiences.

This is the second installment.

NASHVILLE-- Tonight was crazy. It was really loud, definitely special when we stepped onto the ice for the introduction before the Skills competition. I got the chills a little bit there. I mean, you didn’t know how loud the crowd was going to be. You know they were going to be loud, because they are great fans and we knew they were going to cheer everyone on, but it was really special. Being at the end of the line with Shea Weber, James Neal and Pekka Rinne, it was really special.

I was able to get into it right away as I was the first to go in the first event, the Fastest Skater competition. But, I was going against Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings. When I saw I was going against him, I wasn't expecting to win because I know how fast he is from playing against him. Then he beat me pretty easily.

Subban channels Jagr to win breakaway challenge

Saturday, 01.30.2016 / 10:56 PM / 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend

Mike Battaglino - NHL.com Staff Writer

NASHVILLE -- Jaromir Jagr has an idea for master of disguise P.K. Subban when he's finished playing hockey.

"I have a job for him after he retires," Jagr said. "They're the Traveling Jagrs. There's nine of them; now there can be 10. With a Montreal jersey on."

Subban -- dressed as Jagr, complete with mullet, Jofa helmet and long pants -- won the Honda Breakaway Challenge at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday.

"I just cooked it up once I got to the rink," the Montreal Canadiens defenseman said. "I have to give a huge thanks to the training staff. They got me the props and got them ready in time. Everything was last minute.
