NEW YORK -- Longtime scout Bob Crocker and Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs have been named recipients of the 2015 Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

The award, one of the most prestigious in hockey, was presented to the National Hockey League by the New York Rangers in 1966. It honors the memory of Lester Patrick, who spent 50 years in hockey as a player, coach and general manager and was a pioneer in the sport's development.

"By honoring Jeremy Jacobs and Bob Crocker, the Lester Patrick Award selection committee has recognized the dedication and drive of two important contributors to hockey in the United States," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "Jeremy Jacobs -- as owner for 41 years of the NHL's first U.S.-based team and long-serving Chairman of our Board of Governors -- has provided unparalleled vision, innovation and inspiration to the advancement of hockey and the NHL. As a coach, a scout and a hockey executive, Bob Crocker has devoted decades to the development of young American players. Congratulations to both on this long overdue recognition."

Love of game led Daly to Lester Patrick Award

Bill Daly has done a lot, seen a lot, heard a lot and changed a lot since arriving at the NHL on Dec. 13, 1996, as chief legal officer. He has carved out a career which has made him one of the leaders in the sports world as the NHL's Deputy Commissioner for the past nine years.

But take away the impressive resume and job responsibilities and, at his core, Daly is still a 50-year-old fan who relishes the opportunity to meet the players he admired as a boy attending games at Madison Square Garden with his dad.

"Getting to talk to Stephane Matteau and Jeff Beukeboom recently, that was really cool for me," Daly told NHL.com. "Rod Gilbert, the fact that he recognizes who I am and wants to talk to me, I think that's really cool. Vic Hadfield, we talked one night at a Ranger game and he went out of his way, on his own initiative, to sign a picture and have the Rangers frame it. He gave it to me the next time he saw me. I mean, how cool is that?"

Lester Patrick Award 'tremendous honor' for Holmgren

Tuesday, 12.02.2014 / 3:00 AM / Lester Patrick Trophy

Paul Holmgren never envisioned himself becoming a professional hockey player. But after decades in the sport as a player, coach, scout and executive, he has earned acclaim as a key figure in the development of hockey in the United States.

That's why Holmgren is one of the recipients of the 2014 Lester Patrick Award for contributions to hockey in the United States. He will be honored along with NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly during the United States Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony Dec. 4 in Minneapolis.

"It's really a tremendous honor," Holmgren said. "I don't have enough words to express how it feels. I don't have the words other than to say that I'm honored."

Paul Holmgren is proud of his Minnesota roots, but even he admits Philadelphia is his home now.

The Philadelphia Flyers president on Tuesday was named a recipient of the 2014 Lester Patrick Award for his contributions to hockey in the United States. He will be honored, along with fellow recipient NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, during a ceremony Dec. 4 in Minneapolis, just across the river from his hometown of St. Paul, Minn.

"Everybody knew who Paul Holmgren was, whether you were playing or you were a fan," Daly said. "He generated a lot of respect. Then you get to appreciate his background in the sport, where he came from, his roots in Minnesota, his different roles in the sport, working his way up to now being president of the Flyers. His career and his journey to where he is today is quite a remarkable accomplishment, and that's why he's so deserving of this award."

Holmgren, 58, has spent almost his entire professional life as part of the Flyers organization.

Daly: Lester Patrick honor reflects NHL as whole

Tuesday, 09.16.2014 / 4:38 PM / Lester Patrick Trophy

Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly admittedly is uncomfortable with being singled out for an individual award as prestigious in hockey as the Lester Patrick Trophy. It's not his style to be front and center accepting praise and applause for a job well done.

That's why when Daly steps on stage to accept the Lester Patrick Trophy at the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner on Dec. 4, he will do so with the NHL and the people he represents in mind.

After all, Daly said, he wouldn't even be considered for such an honor without the backing of Commissioner Gary Bettman and the owners he works for.
