Bibeau makes 31 saves, Marlies beat Bridgeport to take 1-0 series lead

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Antoine Bibeau made 31 saves and the Toronto Marlies did all their scoring in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday to open their American Hockey League playoff series.

Justin Florek opened the scoring for Bridgeport in the first period and outshot Toronto 20-12 in the opening 20 minutes, but the Marlies responded in the second with four unanswered goals to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first-round set.

T.J. Brennan put Toronto on the board with a power-play goal 4:36 into the second and William Nylander made it 2-1 four minutes later.

The Sound Tigers looked to be headed into the second intermission down by only one goal, but Nikita Soshnikov made it 3-1 at 19:43 and Connor Brown added another with just 0.3 seconds on the clock.

Connor Carrick and Josh Leivo each chipped in with two assists for Toronto.

Stephon Williams took the loss for Bridgeport, stopping 35-of-39 shots.

The Marlies went 1 for 3 on the power play while the Sound Tigers failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Bridgeport hosts Game 2 on Sunday before the series returns to Toronto for Game 3 on Thursday.
