PITTSBURGH, Pa. - New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist participated in practice Friday, a good sign that he may be available to start Game 2 of the Rangers' first-round playoff series with Pittsburgh.
Lundqvist left Game 1 on Wednesday night after he was struck near the eye area by the blade of teammate Marc Staal's stick.
He remained in the game for the final 48 seconds of the period before exiting because of vision problems.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Thursday morning that Lundqvist would have to practice Friday to have any hope of playing Game 2 on Saturday.
Lundqvist was on the ice with backup Antti Raanta while Magnus Hellberg, recalled from Hartford for precautionary reasons a day earlier, did not take part.
Pittsburgh leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.
