MONTREAL - Hospital officials say the health of Sen. Jacques Demers has improved and that he is in stable condition after suffering a stroke earlier this week.
They said in a statement this afternoon that doctors are considering moving him out of intensive care.
His relatives are at his bedside in Montreal and are able to interact with him.
The next medical update is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
The 71-year former NHL coach was rushed to hospital on Wednesday night.
Demers, who coached the Montreal Canadiens to their 1993 Stanley Cup victory, is a patient of the team's current doctor, David Mulder.
