Edmonton Oilers sign goalie Nick Ellis from Providence College to two-year deal

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers announced on Thursday that the club has signed college free-agent goaltender Nick Ellis to a two-year entry-level contract.

The 22-year-old Ellis appeared in 36 games this season as a junior with Providence College in the Hockey East conference, posting a 25-7-4 record, a 1.80 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and four shutouts. It was his first season as a starter after backing up his previous two years.

Ellis, six-foot-one 180 pounds, was a two-time Hockey East goaltender of the month winner after his performances during the months of December and February. His season came to an end on March 25, when Providence dropped a 2-1 decision against Minnesota-Duluth. He made a career high 54 saves before getting beaten for the winner.

The Millersville, Md., native has accumulated a 30-9-5 record, a 1.90 GAA, a .931 save percentage and five shutouts in 48 career NCAA games with Providence over three seasons.
