OHL Roundup: Battalion down Petes, advance to Eastern Conference semifinals

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Mike Amadio scored twice and set up one more as North Bay Battalion downed the Peterborough Petes 4-1 on Tuesday in Game 7 of its first-round matchup.

Mathew Santos and Kyle Wood also found the back of the net for the third-seeded Battalion, who will now face the Barrie Colts in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Josh Maguire was the lone scorer for the No. 6 Petes, who led the series 3-2 before dropping back-to-back games.

North Bay's Jake Smith made 27 saves for the win as Matthew Mancina turned away 23-of-26 shots for Peterborough.

The Battalion went 2 for 3 on the power play while the Petes failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

GREYHOUNDS 4 STING 3

SARNIA, Ont. — Boris Katchouk scored the eventual winner and Brandon Halverson made 36 saves as Sault Ste. Marie upset the Sting to win Game 7 and take its first-round series.

Gabe Guertler, Bobby MacIntyre and Blake Speers also scored for the No. 7 Greyhounds, who fill now face the top-seeded Erie Otters in the Western Conference seimifinals.

Troy Lajeunesse had a goal and two assists and Anthony Salinitri and Pavel Zacha also scored for the No. 2 Sting, who trailed the series 3-1 before forcing a deciding game. Charlie Graham stopped 13-of-17 shots in defeat.

COLTS STEELHEADS

BARRIE, Ont. — Justin Scott had a hat trick and Kevin Labanc added a goal and two helpers as the Colts took Game 7 in their first-round matchup against Mississauga.

Andrew Mangiapane had a goal and an assist for second-seeded Barrie, while Mackenzie Blackwood made 22 saves for the win.

Michael MacLeod supplied the scoring for the No. 7 Steelheads, who got a 33-save outing from Jack Flinn.
