Kasimir Kaskisuo earns victory in Marlies debut, Toronto beats Syracuse 4-3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Kasimir Kaskisuo earned the victory in his American Hockey League debut as the Toronto Marlies beat the host Syracuse Crunch 4-3 on Friday.

Kaskisuo made 26 saves en route to becoming the eighth goaltender this season to pick up a win in a Toronto sweater. The 22-year-old Finnish netminder was signed to a two-year contract by the Maple Leafs organization earlier in the week after he finished his season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Ben Smith struck twice for the Marlies (49-15-5), who extended their win streak to four games. Josh Leivo and Matt Frattin also scored for Toronto and Brendan Leipsic tacked on two asissts.

Tye McGinn, Matt Taormina and Joanathan Drouin scored for the Crunch (30-26-13), who entered the contest 5-0-1 in their last six outings. Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 24-of-28 shots in defeat.

Drouin has 10 goals and 12 points in 16 games with Syracuse.

The Marlies went 0 for 1 on the power play while the Crunch scored twice on four chances with the man advantage.
