Josh Leivo scores two goals in Marlies' 5-3 AHL victory over Ice Caps

TORONTO - The Toronto Marlies stopped a late push by the St. John's Ice Caps in a 5-3 victory Saturday.

Josh Leivo scored twice, while Colin Smith, TJ Brennan and Brendan Leipsic added one apiece.

Brett Lernout, Bud Holloway, and Charles Hudon scored for St. John's.

Lernout opened the scoring just 2:27 into the first period, but the Marlies replied with four straight goals. Holloway cut the lead in half in the second, followed by Hudon's sixth goal in five games to make it a one-goal game. But Leipsic deflected the puck past Zach Fucale at 16:52 of the third period to seal the win for Toronto.

Antoine Bibeau made 16 saves for Toronto, while Fucale stopped 35 of 40 shots for the Ice Caps.
