QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats take 1-0 series lead with double-OT win over Tigres

MONCTON, N.B. - Will Smith scored 17:58 into the second overtime period to lift the Moncton Wildcats to a 5-4 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres on Friday for a 1-0 lead in their first-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series.

Conor Garland scored twice for Moncton, including the tying goal midway through the third period. Stephen Johnson and William Bower had a goal and two assists apiece.

Alexandre Goulet had a goal and an assist for the Tigres. Bradley Lalonde, Pascal Laberge and Carl Marois also scored.

Keven Bouchard earned the win with 43 saves. Olivier Tremblay stopped 62 shots in defeat.

Neither team could convert on the power play. The Wildcats were 0 for 7 while Victoriaville went 0 for 6.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Sam Povorozniouk scored three goals as the Sea Dogs opened their first-round playoff series over Acadie-Bathurst with a victory.

Mathieu Joseph also scored for Saint John, who leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Daniil Miromanov scored the lone goal for the Titan.

SYDNEY, N.S. — Taylor Cooper scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period, then added an insurance marker five minutes later, as Chicoutimi took a 1-0 lead in their playoff series over the Screaming Eagles.

Landon Schiller had the other Sagueneens' goal and Julio Billia stopped 50 shots.

Michael Joly opened the scoring for Cape Breton early in the first period. Alexandre Belanger made 40 saves in the losing effort.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Guillaume Gauthier scored the tiebreaking goal on a power play 17:12 into the second period and Sherbrooke held on to beat the Cataractes in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Daniel Audette and Carl Neill also scored power-play goals for the Phoenix, who opened an early 2-0 lead in the first period.

Brandon Gignac scored Shawinigan's first goal then assisted on Alexis D'Aoust's tying goal in the second period.

Gatineau's Vitalii Abramov scored the lone goal 15:10 into the third period. Alexandre Carrier and Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau picked up assists.

Evgeny Kiselev stopped 27 shots for the Remparts.

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Timo Meier scored three goals and assisted on another, Anthony-John Greer struck twice and the Huskies dominated Drummondville for a 1-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.

Jean-Christophe Beaudin had a goal and three assists while Francis Perron had a goal and two assists for Rouyn-Noranda. Gabriel Fontaine, Philippe Myers, and Allan Caron rounded out the attack with a goal and a helper apiece. Chase Marchand made 22 saves.

Frederic Foulem started in net for the Voltigeurs, allowing four goals on 14 shots through 28:48. Tristan Berube allowed six goals on 16 shots the rest of the way.
