WHL Roundup: Royals clinch regular season championship with win over Rockets

KELOWNA, B.C. - There was no shortage of accolades for the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night.

Alex Forsberg had two goals and two assists as the Royals downed the Kelowna Rockets 7-4 to claim their first Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey League's regular-season champion.

Victoria also clinched the Western Conference and B.C. Division with the victory.

Jack Walker had two goals and an assist while Tyler Soy scored once and added three helpers for the Royals (48-16-6), who are 11-0-1 in their last 12 games. Bladimir Bobylev and Ethan Price also chipped in.

Tomas Soustal, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote and Calvin Thurkauf scored for Kelowna (46-20-4).

Coleman Vollrath made 26 saves for the win in net as Michael Herringer turned away 29-of-36 shots in defeat.

Victoria was 4 for 9 on the power play with the Rockets also converting four times on six opportunities.

WARRIORS 4 RAIDERS 1

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Jayden Halbgewachs scored the first of three goals in the first period for the Warriors as they got past Prince Albert.

Tanner Jeannot and Brayden Point also had first-period goals for Moose Jaw (35-26-9). Dryden Hunt added a power-play goal late in the second period.

Reid Gardiner replied for the Raiders (37-25-8).

PATS 5 BLADES 3

REGINA — Jake Leschyshyn and Rykr Cole had a goal and an assist apiece as the Pats beat Saskatoon for their fourth-straight win.

Adam Brooks, Austin Wagner and Luc Smith supplied the rest of the offence for Regina (35-27-8).

Mason McCarty, Wyatt Sloboshan and Ryan Graham scored for the Blades (25-41-4).

CHIEFS 3 SILVERTIPS 2 (OT)

EVERETT, Wash. — Hudson Elynuik scored at 2:28 of overtime as Spokane slipped past the Silvertips.

Markson Bechtold and Matt Sozanski found the back of the net in regulation for the Chiefs (32-29-9).

Matt Fonteyne and Devon Skoleski chipped in for Everett (38-25-7).
