Ivan Nikolishin scores in overtime, Red Deer downs Portland 4-3

RED DEER, Alta. - Ivan Nikolishin scored in overtime to lift the Red Deer Rebels over the Portland Winterhawks 4-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Haydn Fleury, Adam Helewka and Grayson Pawlenchuk had goals in regulation time for Red Deer (37-21-3). Trevor Martin made 31 saves for the win.

Blake Heinrich struck twice and added an assist for Portland (31-27-4). Dominic Turgeon scored at the 14:57 mark of the third period to tie it 3-3 and force overtime. Adin Hill stopped 39 shots for the Winterhawks.

Neither team scored on the power play. The Rebels went 0 for 2 and Portland was 0 for 5.

REGINA — Jesse Lees had the eventual winner as Prince Albert topped the Pats.

Vojtech Budik opened scoring for the Raiders (34-20-8), while Reid Gardiner put the puck into an empty net.

Cole Sanford was the lone scorer for Regina (30-24-7).

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Nick Schneider stopped all 34 shots he faced as Medicine Hat blanked the Broncos.

Matt Bradley and Chad Butcher supplied the offence the Tigers (23-34-5).

Taz Burman made 29 saves for Swift Current (21-32-8).

CALGARY — Tyler Soy had the first and last goal of the game as Victoria beat the Hitmen.

Ryan Gagnon also scored twice for the Royals (41-16-6), while Logan Fisher and Matthew Phillips chipped in.

Bryce Platt and Jordy Stallard replied for Calgary (35-23-4).

OIL KINGS 6 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Davis Koch and Lane Bauer each had a goal and two helpers as Edmonton toppled Kootenay.

Dario Meyer, Tyler Robertson, Aaron Irving and Brett Pollock also scored for the Oil Kings (27-28-7).

Matt Alfaro struck twice for the Ice (10-46-5).

WHEAT KINGS 5 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Tim McGauley scored the first of four unanswered goals in the third period as Brandon downed the Hurricanes.

Nolan Patrick, John Quenneville and Tyler Coulter also scored in the third for the Wheat Kings (39-18-5), while Kale Clague opened the scoring in the first.

Egor Babenko and Brayden Burke responded for Lethbridge (40-20-2).

COUGARS 6 CHIEFS 0

SPOKANE, Wash. — Ty Edmonds made 35 saves and Prince George had six different goal scorers en route to blanking the Chiefs.

Brad Morrison, Jansen Harkins, Jesse Gabrielle, Brogan O'Brien, Luke Harrison and Kody McDonald supplied the scoring for the Cougars (33-25-4).

Lasse Petersen stopped 17-of-22 shots for Spokane (29-24-8).

THUNDERBIRDS 4 AMERICANS 2

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Ryan Gropp's first-period goal stood as the winner as Seattle doubled up Tri-City.

Cavin Leth and Nolan Volcan also scored in the first to build up a 3-0 lead for the Thunderbirds (34-23-3), who got another goal in the third from Mathew Barzal.

Michael Rasmussen and Nolan Yaremko responded for the Americans (29-28-3).

ROCKETS 4 GIANTS 3

VANCOUVER — Justin Kirklan had a goal and two helpers as Kelowna got past the Giants.

Jordan Borstmayer, Rourke Chartier and Tyson Baillie also found the back of the net for the Rockets (43-16-3).

Radovan Bondra scored twice and Trevor Cox had the other for Vancouver (23-33-7).

BLAZERS 3 SILVERTIPS 2 (OT)

EVERETT, Wash. — Deven Sideroff scored 1:25 into the extra period to lift Kamloops over the Silvertips.

Quinn Benjafield and Matt Revel opened up a 2-0 lead for the Blazers (28-24-9).

Carson Stadnyk put Everett (35-20-6) on the board in the third and Remi Laurencelle forced overtime with a goal at 19:29.
