QMJHL Roundup: Francois Beauchemin helps Foreurs past Wildcats 5-3

VAL-D'OR, Que. - Francois Beauchemin had the eventual winner in the second period as the Val-d'Or Foreurs held on for a 5-3 victory over the Moncton Wildcats on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

Anthony Beauregard, Anthony Richard and Olivier Galipeau all scored in the first period as Val-d'Or (44-11-3) built a 3-1 lead by the first intermission. Alexis Pepin added his 20th goal of the season in the third, while Etienne Montpetit made 33 saves for the win.

Cameron Askew's 30th of the season came too late for Moncton (32-18-10). Zachary Malatesta and Manuel Wiederer chipped in. Blade Mann-Dixon started in net for the Wildcats, stopping 6-of-10 shots in 23:44 of work. He was pulled after Beauchemin's goal in favour of Keven Bouchard, who turned aside 15-of-16 shots in relief.

The Foreurs went 1 for 4 on the power play and the Wildcats were 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

OLYMPIQUES 4 OCEANIC 2

GATINEAU, Que. — Alex Breton's goal 49 seconds into the third period was the eventual winner as the Olympiques sailed past Rimouski.

Alex Dostie also scored early in the third for Gatineau (41-16-3), while Guillaume McSween and Alexandre Landreville built a 2-0 lead for the Olympiques early in the game.

Tyler Boland and Antoine Dufort-Plante replied for the Oceanic (32-20-6).

PHOENIX 4 ISLANDERS 2

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Guillaume Gauthier scored and added an assist as the Phoenix rallied past Charlottetown.

Julien Pelletier, Kevin Gilbert and Daniel Audette all chipped in as Sherbrooke (22-29-9) scored four unanswered goals.

Alexis Vanier and Mitchell Balmas staked the Islanders (28-25-7) to an early 2-0 lead.

VOLTIGEURS 3 TIGRES 2

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Mathieu Sevigny struck twice — including the winner —as the Voltigeurs slipped past Victoriaville.

Gabriel Slight also scored for Drummondville (26-32-2).

Felix Lauzon and Mario Huber both had power-play goals in the second period for the Tigres (29-23-7).

HUSKIES 5 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Martins Dzierkals scored the winner as part of Rouyn-Noranda's four-goal third period to down Cape Breton.

Mathieu Boucher, Francis Perron and Anthony-John Greer also scored in the third for the Huskies (45-9-3), who have won five straight. Jean-Christophe Beaudin added a goal in the first.

Loïk Leveille and Jordan Ty Fournier responded for the Screaming Eagles (31-24-6).

TITAN 3 SAGUENEENS 1

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Mark Simpson had a goal in each period as Acadie-Bathurst topped the Sagueneens.

Simpson now has 20 goals on the season for the Titan (24-27-6).

Nicolas Roy replied for Chicoutimi (26-23-9).
