WHL Roundup: Coulter, Hawryluk combine for 11 points as Wheat Kings topple Ice

BRANDON, Man. - Tyler Coulter had three goals and two assists and Jayce Hawryluk scored twice and added four helpers as the Brandon Wheat Kings hammered the Kootenay Ice 11-1 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.

Ivan Provorov, Kale Clague, Stelio Mattheos, Ty Lewis, Nolan Patrick and Jordan Thomson rounded out the attack for the Wheat Kings (36-17-4) while Mitch Wheaton tacked on three assists.

Matt Alfaro responded for the Ice (10-42-5) midway through the second period when Brandon was ahead 6-0.

Logan Thompson made 17 saves for the win. Wyatt Hoflin started in net for Kootenay and allowed 10 goals on 38 shots in 46:45 of action before giving way to Declan Hobbs, who made eight saves in relief.

The Wheat Kings went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Ice failed to score on its only chance with the man advantage.

PATS 4 RAIDERS 2

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Adam Brooks had three goals and an assist and Tyler Brown made 34 saves as Regina doubled up the Raiders.

Austin Wagner also scored for the Pats (26-23-7), who won their third game in a row.

Jordan Tkatch scored once for Prince Albert (31-20-6) and assisted on a goal from Brendan Guhle. Rylan Parenteau stopped 28-of-31 shots in defeat.

BLADES 4 BRONCOS 3

SASKATOON — Brock Hamm made 39 saves and Braylon Schmyr scored the eventual winner at 6:23 of the third period as the Blades slipped past Swift Current.

Cameron Hebig, Dustin Perillat and Josh Paterson also scored for Saskatoon (20-33-4), which snapped a three-game slide.

Tyler Adams, Tyler Steenbergen and Glenn Gawdin found the back of the net for the Broncos (20-29-7), who got a 26-save outing from Taz Burman.

Swift Current lost defenceman Kade Jensen 5:41 into the second after he was handed a game misconduct for boarding.

HITMEN 6 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Jake Bean and Travis Sanheim each had a goal and an assist as Calgary toppled the Hurricanes.

Pavel Karnaukhov, Beck Malenstyn, Matteo Gennaro and Caren Twarynski also scored and Radel Fazleev chipped in with three assists for the Hitmen (33-21-3). Nik Amundrud only had to make 15 saves for the win.

Tyler Wong and Ryley Lindgren struck for Lethbridge (40-17-1). Jayden Sittler took the loss after allowing four goals on 13 shots in a period of work. Stuart Skinner took over and made 20 saves in relief.

BLAZERS 5 REBELS 3

KAMLOOPS, B.C — Ryan Rehill had a pair of goals and Connor Ingram made 43 saves as the Blazers defeated Red Deer for their fourth straight win.

Quinn Benjafield, Collin Shirley and Jake Kryski also scored for Kamloops (27-22-8).

Luke Philp, with two, and Ivan Nikolishin supplied the offence for the Rebels (35-20-3), who are on a four-game slide. Trevor Martin stopped 35-of-39 shots in defeat.

ROYALS 5 GIANTS 2

VANCOUVER — Logan Fisher capped a hat trick with an empty-net goal 18:27 into the third period to lead Victoria over the Giants.

Vladimir Bobylev, with a goal and an assist, and Tyler Soy rounded out the offence for the Royals (38-16-6). Griffen Outhouse made 28 saves for the win.

Radovan Bondra and Taylor Crunk scored for Vancouver (21-30-7), which got a 30-save outing from Ryan Kubic
