QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats beat Armada, snap nine-game winless streak

MONCTON, N.B. - Vaclav Karabacek struck twice and Cameron Askew had a goal and two assists as the Moncton Wildcats snapped a nine-game winless streak with a 4-2 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Manuel Wiederer also scored for the Wildcats (31-16-9), who were 0-6-3 in their past nine outings. Cody Donaghey chipped in with two helpers while Blade-Mann Dixon made 24 saves for the win.

Oascal Corbeil and Morgan Adams-Moisan responded for the Armada (20-28-7), who are on a three-game slide.

Samuel Montembeault stopped 32-of-35 shots in defeat.

Moncton went 1 for 5 on the power play while Blainville-Boisbriand scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Vitalii Abramov and Alex Dostie had a goal and an assist apiece as Gatineau extended its win streak to five games by downing the Voltigeurs.

Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau, Yan Pavel Laplante and Nicolas Meloche also scored for the Olympiques (38-15-3), who got a 25-save outing from Mark Grametbauer.

Mathieu Sevigny and Charley Graaskamp found the back of the net for Drummondville (24-30-2). Anthony Dumont-Bouchard turned away 29-of-33 shots in defeat.

Paquin-Boudreau was handed a game misconduct at 19:16 of the third for being the aggressor, while Sevigny was ejected for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of regulation.

FOREURS 5 HUSKIES 4

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Nicolas Aube-Kubel's goal at 7:41 of the third stood up as the winner as Val-d'Or got past the Huskies.

Anthony Beauregard, Francois Beauchemin, Filip Pyrochta and Jan Mandat rounded out the offence for the Foreurs (42-10-3). Etienne Montpetit made 38 saves for the win.

Francis Perron had two goals and two assists for Rouyn-Noranda (40-9-5), which entered 7-0-1 in its past eight outings. Jean-Christophe Beaudin and Timo Meier also scored. Samuel Harvey stopped 8-of-9 shots in 14:45 of relief but took the loss. Chase Marchand started and allowed four goals on 24 shots.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Matthew Highmore scored the winner at 8:51 of the third period as Saint John came from behind to edge the Cataractes for its fourth win in a row.

Adam Marsh and Sam Povorozniouk also scored for the Sea Dogs (36-14-4) while Marc-Antoine Turcotte turned aside 29 shots for the victory.

Alex Pawelczyk and Anthony Beauvillier built up a 2-0 lead for Shawinigan (35-15-4) in the first period. Philippe Cadorette made 32 saves in a losing cause.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — James Povall made 23 saves and Victoriaville scored five straight goals to open the game en route to beating the league-worst Drakkar.

Alexandre Goulet, Felix Lauzon, Carl Marois, Maxime Comtois and Pascal Laberge built up a 5-0 lead for the Tigres (28-20-7).

Matt Jones, with two, and Raphael Santerre responded in the third period for Baie Comeau (8-42-3), which has lost nine in a row. Antoine Samuel stopped 19-of-24 shots in defeat.
